The bench of Justice HS Madaan dismissed the plea of a runaway couple seeking protection.  The petitoneer couple, a 19 year old woman from Uttar Pradesh and a 22 year old man from Punjab were recieving a lot of threats due to which they filed a plea seeking protection.

To this, the Punjab and Haryana HC stated that Live-in relationships are socially and morally inacceptable. “If such a protection is granted, the entire fabric of the society  would get disturbed.” Stating this, they refused to grant protection to the couple.

The couple has been together for 4 years now. They had to runaway because the woman’s family did not agree for an inter-caste marriage. They decided to live-in together following which they started recieving a lot of threats. On this, they decided to approach the high court for protection of their life and liberty from the woman’s family. The HC also turned them down.
