A major security alert was triggered early Saturday when the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad received an email claiming that a human bomb was onboard an IndiGo flight arriving from Jeddah. Acting swiftly, authorities diverted the aircraft to Mumbai, where it landed safely without incident.
According to police, the airport received the email around 5:30 am. The message warned officials to prevent the landing of the IndiGo flight in Hyderabad, alleging that members of the LTTE and ISI were planning an explosion similar to the 1984 Madras Airport attack.
Security Checks Conducted, No Threat Found
After receiving the threat, all relevant agencies were immediately alerted. The flight was directed to Mumbai, where it safely landed and was thoroughly inspected by security personnel. Following detailed checks, authorities confirmed that no suspicious materials or threats were found onboard.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to trace the source of the threatening email. Officials are also examining whether the message was a hoax or part of a larger coordinated attempt to disrupt air operations.
IndiGo Issues Official Statement
In an official statement, an IndiGo spokesperson confirmed that the flight—number 6E 68 operating from Jeddah to Hyderabad—was diverted due to a security threat received on November 1. The airline stated that it followed all established safety protocols and worked closely with security agencies during the investigation.
The spokesperson added that the airline took all necessary steps to ensure minimal inconvenience to passengers, including providing refreshments and timely updates during the delay. Once the aircraft was cleared, normal operations resumed.
Authorities continue to investigate the source of the email, while both airports remain on high alert as a precautionary measure.
