Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Narwane recently inducted 100 K-9 Vajra cannon into the army. Now three of these cannons have been deployed in high altitude hilly areas in Ladakh. According to the news agency ANI, a top government source said that three cannons reached Leh on Thursday, which are being moved to a higher altitude base. Here it will be investigated whether these cannons can be used against the enemy in high areas.Sources said that on the basis of the performance of these guns, the army can order their purchase for two or three additional regiments. General Narwane is monitoring all activities related to these cannons being manufactured at Larsen & Tubro’s factory at Hajira near Surat in Gujarat. The army had signed a deal to purchase 100 such guns from the South African Company. The K-9 Vajra cannon is an indigenous version of the K9 Thunder Cannon of South Africa. The self-propelled cannon has a range of 38 km and has been built by Mumbai-based Larsen & Tubro in partnership with a South Korean company. Let me tell you that the Indian Army had not included any new heavy cannons since 1986 after the Bofors scandal that shook the entire country. Now with K-9 Vajra, Dhanush and M777 ultra light cannons the army is adding new cannons to its artillery.
