Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur expressed that her team, having faced the pain of defeats in the past, is now ready to experience the happiness of winning a world title. As India prepares to meet South Africa in the Women’s World Cup final at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, Harmanpreet said the team has worked hard to reach this stage and is focused on delivering its best performance.
She shared that the squad has learned from past experiences and is eager to create a new chapter in Indian cricket. According to her, every player understands the significance of the moment and is determined to give everything for the country.
Learning from Previous Finals
This final marks India’s third appearance in a Women’s ODI World Cup final. The team previously lost to Australia in 1998 and to England in 2017, both times narrowly missing the title. India also missed out on gold at the 2022 Commonwealth Games after losing to Australia. Despite these setbacks, Harmanpreet believes those experiences have made the team stronger and more united.
She mentioned that reaching a stage like the World Cup final is the greatest motivation any athlete can have. The captain highlighted the positive atmosphere in the camp, saying the players are fully charged and supporting each other as they look forward to the big day.
A New Champion to Be Crowned
Harmanpreet said it was exciting that the final would produce a new world champion in women’s cricket. She noted that while teams like Australia and England have dominated the sport for years, the rise of new contenders such as India and South Africa brings fresh energy and competition to the game.
She added that the team’s journey so far has made her proud and that the entire country should take pride in their achievements. With the final on home soil, Harmanpreet hopes Sunday will mark a special day for Indian cricket and its fans.
