Former Supreme Court judge PB Sawant died of a heart attack on Monday morning. Family members gave this information. He was 90 years old. Justice Sawant was one of the co-convenors of the Elgar Parishad conference held in Pune on 31 December 2017.He was also part of a panel investigating the 2002 Gujarat riots. He was also the President of the Press Council of India. His daughter Sujata Mane said that he had a heart attack on Monday morning and died at home at 9.30 am.In 1957, he started his career as a lawyer. Subsequently in 1973 he was appointed Additional Judge of Bombay High Court. In the year 1989, Justice Sawant was appointed a judge of the Supreme Court. He retired in 1995, but remained active in public life.
