On Thursday, an explosion on a cargo ship parked at Dubai’s critical Jebel Ali Port sent a shockwave throughout the skyscraper-studded metropolis. The explosion, which shot up massive orange flames on a ship at one of the world’s busiest ports, prompted walls and windows to tremble in areas up to 25 kilometres distant from the crash site.
There were no claims of deaths or injuries at the port, and the 14 sailors on board the ship were successfully evacuated. The amount of the blast’s devastation was not immediately known. Videos of the wreckage uploaded on social media showed burned canisters, ashes, and strewn debris.
