The Central Drug Standards Control Organization’s expert committee is scheduled to meet Wednesday to approve the emergency use of the Russian-made Sputnik V vaccine against covid-19. This is happening on the application of Dr. Reddy Laboratory. If the expert committee approves this, the application will be forwarded to the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) for final approval. If DCGI gives its approval, it will be the third vaccine to be approved in India.
Sputnik V was developed in August by the Gamalaya National Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology, Russia. In September, the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) signed an agreement with Dr. Reddy for the distribution of local trials and vaccines.
Dr. Reddy Labs conducted a two-stage test on 100 people in India and said that it was found to be safe.
