Beijing said it “firmly opposed” Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu’s visit to Arunachal Pradesh last weekend, two days after India and China criticized each other for failing to make progress in talks over the military impasse on the Line of Actual Control in Ladakh. It asked New Delhi to “stop taking actions that would complicate and expand the boundary issue”.
Within hours, India’s Ministry of External Affairs slammed Beijing’s statement, claiming that Arunachal Pradesh is an “integral and inalienable part” of the country and that objecting to Indian politicians visiting a state “does not stand to reason.”
