Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday attributed the NDA’s strong performance in the by-polls in the state’s five Assembly seats, the results of which were announced during the day, to his government’s development work over the last five-and-a-half months, and promised that all poll promises would be kept.
He added that the mandate recognizes Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts to improve the North East. He also intimated that two to three opposition MLAs would defect to the BJP and that by-elections to the seats from which they were elected, as well as the Majuli Assembly seat, which was vacated by Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, are likely to be held.
