On June 9, 2020, Deputy Municipal Commissioner of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Shirish Dixit, passed away due to coronavirus infection.
Dixit (54) served as the engineer in the water supply department of the municipal corporation. He was announced dead on Tuesday morning when his family members called to informed the authorities about his health as he was not feeling well. He was asymptomatic and was pronounced dead when a team of officers reached his residence.
Reports state that as of June 9, 2020, a total of 55 BMC employees have passed away due to the viral infection and more than 1700 employees have tested positive for the coronavirus. On the other hand, the number of COVID-19 cases amongst police officers seems to reduce with time.
