Agricultural Law: Supreme Court Committee discusses with 12 organizations and farmers from eight states

The next round of talks was held on Friday by a committee set up by the Supreme Court to consider three new agricultural laws made by the Center. 12 farmers’ organizations and farmers from eight states including West Bengal participated in this discussion. The committee has held seven meetings so far.The three-member committee is discussing online and face to face with all stakeholders. The committee said in a statement that it held talks with farmers, farmer organizations and farmer producer organizations through video conferences.Accordingly, farmers and 12 farmer organizations from Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Jammu and Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal discussed the laws in detail with the committee members. The committee said that all the farmers, farmer organizations and farmer producer organizations participating in the meeting shared their views and suggestions regarding the three agricultural laws. Significantly, on January 12, the Supreme Court stayed the implementation of the three controversial agricultural laws for two months and asked the committee to submit its report within two months after discussion with all stakeholders. Thousands of farmers have been agitating on the borders of Delhi for more than two months, demanding withdrawal of three new agricultural laws. Most of these farmers came from different parts of Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.
