Don’t want to say anything about Yo-Yo tests but my time will come: Yuvraj Singh

Yuvraj Singh, who announced his retirement from international cricket and the Indian Premier League, said he has lots to say about the Yo-Yo test but decided to let it go now as the Indian team is currently playing the World Cup.

On Monday, Yuvraj Singh addressed the media in Mumbai and brought the curtains down on a memorable career. He spoke at length of his relationship with his father Yograj Singh, his career highs and how he regretted not playing at least 40 more Test matches for India.

But Yuvraj Singh has also promised to speak a lot more on the controversial Yo-Yo test which has now become the basis for selection to the Indian team.

“In life now, I will have a lot of time to discuss these things and I will have a lot to say. I am not saying anything right now because India is playing the World Cup and I don’t want any controversies around the players. I want the players to be in the best space to go into the last four.

“I am sure my time will come to speak and I don’t want to be in that space where I have retired at the World Cup time… I have retired because I want to move on with my life and I am sure my time will come to talk about these things,” Yuvraj said.

Meanwhile, Yuvraj revealed he was told he could play a retirement match if he did not pass the Yo-Yo test but he turned the offer down.

“I was told… If you cannot pass the Yo-Yo test, then you could play a retirement match. I said I do not want a retirement match and if I do not pass the Yo-Yo test, I would go home. I passed the Yo-Yo test and the rest is not my call,” Yuvraj Singh said on Monday.

Yuvraj Singh burst on to the scene in 2000 and made an immediate impact with his stylish strokeplay, tight left-arm spin bowling, and athletic fielding. Over the years, he went on to become one of the greatest shorter-formats players in history and starred in India’s 2007 World T20 and 2011 World Cup triumphs.

Yuvraj Singh started 2017 with a bang. He made his highest ODI score against England in Cuttack and played the Champions Trophy later in the year. Yuvraj Singh was even part of the Indian team for the limited-overs tour of West Indies but after an ODI on June 30, 2017, he was not considered for the Indian team again.
