New Delhi: In a major relief for air passengers, IndiGo on Saturday announced that it will provide full refunds for all flight bookings cancelled between December 5 and December 15, following a directive from the Ministry of Civil Aviation. The airline also confirmed that it will waive all cancellation and rescheduling charges for passengers affected during this period.
The decision came after the civil aviation ministry instructed the airline to complete the refund process by Sunday, 8 PM, amid growing passenger complaints over delays and service disruptions. The ministry further directed IndiGo to ensure that any baggage separated from travellers reaches them within the next two days.
In a statement, IndiGo said, “In response to recent events, all refunds for your cancellations will be processed automatically to your original mode of payment. We will offer full waiver on all cancellations/reschedule requests of your bookings for travel between 5 December 2025 and 15 December 2025. We are deeply sorry for the hardships caused.”
The airline clarified that passengers do not need to raise separate refund requests, as the amount will be credited automatically to the original payment method. This move aims to reduce passenger inconvenience and restore trust after a series of operational challenges.
Government Monitors IndiGo Refund and Baggage Delivery Process
The Ministry of Civil Aviation stated that it is closely monitoring the implementation of the directives to ensure passengers receive timely refunds and delayed baggage is delivered without further inconvenience.
Aviation experts believe this step sets a stronger precedent for passenger rights and accountability in the Indian aviation sector, especially during large-scale disruptions
