Rohit Sharma’s Cryptic Post Sparks Retirement Rumors After ODI Series in Australia

Fans speculate that the 38-year-old opener may have played his final match on Australian soil.

In the midst of growing uncertainty surrounding his One Day International (ODI) career, Rohit Sharma’s latest social media post has set the cricketing world abuzz. Following the conclusion of the three-match ODI series in Australia, the Indian opener shared a cryptic message on Sunday that has led to widespread speculation about his future.

Rohit, who made a memorable return to form with a well-crafted century in the final ODI in Sydney, posted an image of himself entering the departure area at Sydney Airport. The caption read: “One last time, signing off from Sydney,” which immediately sparked rumors that he may have played his final match for India on Australian soil.

This post comes at a time when questions about the 38-year-old’s international career have been growing. Despite his stellar performance in the series, including a gritty 73 off 97 balls in the second ODI, Rohit has already retired from both Test cricket and T20Is. After leading India to victory in the 2024 T20 World Cup, he called it quits in the shortest format and stepped away from Test cricket earlier this year.

Currently, ODI cricket remains his only active format, and with no upcoming ODI series scheduled in Australia for the next two years, it seems unlikely that the Mumbaikar will return to the country in Indian colors.

Having accumulated 11,370 ODI runs in 268 innings, Rohit’s career in Australia dates back to the 2007-08 CB Series, making his potential departure from the Australian stage all the more poignant for his fans.

As the speculation continues, cricket enthusiasts will be closely watching any further developments in Rohit Sharma’s career.
