The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has cautioned that the highest temperature might break the 50-degree Celsius threshold this time as a scorching heatwave continues to spread over most of India. “Because May is the hottest month of the year, temperatures in western Rajasthan can reach 50 degrees.” Dr. M Mohapatra, Director General of Meteorology, IMD, stated, “This April was the fourth hottest for the country ever.”
At a news briefing, Mohapatra stated that maximum temperatures will be above average in most portions of west-central and northwest India. In northern regions of northeast India, days are anticipated to be hotter than usual.
