HIGHLIGHTS

  • Madhya Pradesh CM Kamal Nath has written a letter to Shivraj Singh Chouhan
  • Kamal Nath has asked Shivraj and BJP to support Congress’s loan waiver scheme
  • Kamal Nath has also said BJP should accept the truth about the loan waivers

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath has written a letter to former CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan and took a sharp jibe at his predecessor saying the Congress government had successfully waived loans of 21 lakh farmers, the BJP had been denying the feat to attack the party.

He also said that now that the elections are over, he hopes BJP will extend its support to the Congress in continuing to help the farmers with the loan waiver scheme.

In the letter addressed to Shivraj Chouhan, Kamal Nath writes, “We have waived loans of 21 lakh farmers in Madhya Pradesh but because of the elections you have been denying the truth. But since the elections have ended now, you and the BJP should accept the truth about loan waivers.”

Kamal Nath has also slammed the erstwhile Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Madhya Pradesh and said that what the Congress government did in three months of coming to power, BJP couldn’t do in several years of remaining in the government.

“We will go back to our programme of waiving farm loans under the waiver scheme since the poll code has comes off now and I hope we will get your cooperation and good wishes for the same,” wrote Kamal Nath in his letter.

This comes a day before the results for the Lok Sabha elections are declared on May 23.

According to the My Axis Exit Poll, BJP is expected to win around 26-28 seats in Madhya Pradesh while the ruling Congress will be relegated to only 1-3 seats.

Kamal Nath’s Congress came to power in Madhya Pradesh after the December assembly elections in which the party defeated the incumbent Shivraj Singh Chouhan government.

As exit polls predicted a severe loss for Congress within a few months of it coming to power in the heartland state, Madhya Pradesh BJP went a step further to ask Kamal Nath to prove his majority in the assembly.
