On Saturday, the Taliban reportedly prevented 72 Afghan Sikhs and Hindus, including two minority members of the Afghan parliament, from boarding an Indian Air Force (IAF) plane. They were escorted back to the airport in Kabul. This first group of Afghan Sikhs and Hindus had been waiting outside the airport for nearly 12 hours since Friday, hoping to be evacuated to India.

Afghan Sikhs and Hindus are citizens of war-torn country who have Afghan passports. They come to India on Long Term Visas, but their financially disadvantaged families opt to remain in the nation because their primary sources of income are in the cities of Kabul, Jalalabad, and Ghazni.
