The state government of Maharashtra claimed that the second wave of Covid-19 is under control now. Chief minister Uddhav Thackeray urged people to maintain Covid-19 protocols to prevent a third wave, especially during the upcoming festive season. He also warned that the second wave is not over yet.

An official report stated that the state has witnessed  5,132 fresh cases of coronavirus and 158 new fatalities yesterday. On the vaccination front, the state has operated 50% of citizens above 45 have been given at least one dose of the vaccine, while in the 18-45 age group, it is 25%. Overall, over 50 million citizens have been given one dose, while 13,307,000 were fully vaccinated by yesterday.

State surveillance officer Dr Pradeep Awate said,  “When positivity rate dips below 5%, it indicates that the virus has been controlled,” He also said,“The authorities apart from their standard practices of testing, contact tracing and medication also took into account the local factors to combat the virus,”

Positivity rate is the percentage of people testing positive out of total tests conducted for an infection.
