BJP member Ashwini Upadhyay and five others were arrested on Sunday for shouting violent anti-Muslim slogans at a rally at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. Ashwini Upadhyay, who is suspected of being one of the protest’s organizers, was questioned with other suspects until late last night.
The arrests were made in response to indignation over footage showing a gang yelling obscene chants threatening Muslims at Jantar Mantar, a protest location in Delhi’s center.
Preet Singh, the director of Save India, is among those detained. Vinod Sharma, Deepak Singh, Vineet Kranti, and a suspect with only one name, Deepak, are the others.
