The Serum Institute of India released a media statement today. It spoke about the Government’s decision to export the vaccines in early 2021. “In the past few days there has been an intense discussion on the decision of our Government and Indian vaccine manufacturers including SII to export vaccines.”

It said that in January 2021, when there was a stock pile of vaccinations, covid cases in India were at a all time low. Around the same time, many other countries were facing acute crisis. Our Government extended support wherever possible in this period. They also claimed that it is this spirit which led to the inital corporation between the countries. The pandemic is not limited geographically and politically.

We are among the top two most populous countries and that complete vaccination drive is not possible in two to three months. It could take two to three years.

It also said that they have been working tirelessly with the Government and it is a time to unite and defat the pandemic.
