West Bengal today recorded the death of as many as 147 people due to the deadly coronavirus. The health department bulletin said that this was the highest recorded COVID- related deaths in a single day so far. The overall death toll in the state reached to total of 13,284.
Among the fresh casualties, 39 were reported from the North 24 Parganas district and 33 from Kolkata. The remaining deaths were recorded in several other districts.
The state also recorded 19,117 fresh Covid cases, which took the overall toll to 11,33,430. The number of active cases in the state is 1,31,805 . North 24 Parganas reported 4,116 cases which was followed by Kolkata with 3,451 cases and Hooghly with 1,339 cases.
The bulletin also said that a total number of 19,113 people were also cured in the last 24 hours which makes the number of recoveries in the state with a total of 9,88,341. The discharge rate among the corona patients is 87.20 per cent on Sunday.
The West Bengal government on Saturday announced to impose a two-weeks lockdown in the state till May 30 to control the COVID cases. The government announced that the restrictions will remain in effect from 6 am on Sunday till 6 pm of May 30. During this time, all the government and private offices, shopping complexes, malls, bars, sports complexes, pubs and beauty parlours will remain closed.
