A senior officer said that the National Disaster Relief Force has increased its number of teams from 53 to 100 to manage relief and rescue measures in order of the disastrous cyclone Tauktae.

The director general of the force SN Pradhan tweeted that the teams are being appointed in the coastal regions of Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Goa, Gujarat and Maharashtra. On Friday he had said that 53 teams were being recruited which has now increased to 100.

The director general said that out of 100 teams, 42 are being pre-stationed in the states and 26 are on standby. thirty-two teams are on backup and can be airlifted anytime on the requirement. The NDRF chief futher added that all the members of the team have been vaccinated and are equipped with the required number of tools. A single team comprises of 35-40 officers and are armed with tree and pole cutters, boats, basic first aid euipments and various tools required.

The weather condition in these coastal regions have intensified.
