835kg ganja worth Rs 1.25 crore seized in Pune, 5 arrested

ive persons were arrested on Tuesday for allegedly smuggling over 835kg of ganja worth Rs 1.25 crore in a truck in Pune, police said.

Directorate of Revenue Intelligence and Customs officials seized the contraband when the team intercepted the truck, which was on its way from Andhra Pradesh to Pune.

“DRI and customs officials intercepted the truck on Manchar Nirgudsar Road in Pimpalgaon Khadki, 90 km from Pune, in Ambegaon tehsil,”a DRI official said.

A check found a false bottom in the trucks carriage, containing 149 packets of ganja weighing 835.48 kilogrammes worth Rs 1.25 crore, the DRI official said.

The truck was being escorted by an Innova Crysta car, which was also seized.

All five persons were arrested under Section 42 of the NDPS Act.

DRI official identified the five arrested persons as Amit Gyaneshwar Bidkar, Deepak, Gundu Rao Patil, Ilaiyabkas Babamiyan Munde and Naseer Gafoor Pathan.

Patil, Munde and Pathan were travelling in the SUV that was intercepted along with the truck, the official added.

“They have been charged under The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 and have been remanded in judicial custody,” he said.
