Since Monday afternoon, 5000 nurses have gone on strike at AIIMS, the country’s largest hospital. The striking nurses include both women and men. This has severely ruined the health services in the hospital. The strike of nurses in the Corona period has added to the trouble. Patients are getting upset and there is no one to take care of the patients in many wards. Although there has not been much impact in the OPD and Emergency ward, but its effect has started showing.
As such, the list of nurses’ demands is long. But their main demands are to remove the inconsistencies of 6th Pay Commission. With the removal of this discrepancy, the salary of nurses will increase. The issue of stopping the resumption of nurses on contract, stopping the arrangement of accommodation for nurses is also included.
Sixth Pay Commission discrepancy should be removed
The main demand of striking nurses is to remove the receipts of the 6th Pay Commission and then calculate the salary. This will significantly increase their salary. But AIIMS director Randeep Guleria said that the nurse unions had placed 23 demands and the AIIMS administration and government have accepted almost all of them. He said that a demand is basically related to the discrepancy in fixing the starting salary according to the Sixth Pay Commission.
