]]>In the hill regions, fresh snowfall was reported in Shimla, Manali, Narkanda, Kufri, and surrounding high-altitude areas. Snow accumulation covered roads and rooftops, forcing authorities to regulate traffic in vulnerable stretches. Tourists visiting these destinations were seen enjoying the snow, even as cold conditions intensified and temperatures dipped significantly.
Jammu and Kashmir recorded around 31 millimetres of rainfall during the recent weather activity. The impact was also felt in Uttar Pradesh, where rain was reported in nearly 35 districts. Meerut recorded a sharp drop in temperature, with the mercury falling to around 10.5 degrees Celsius, making it one of the coldest locations in the region.
The meteorological department issued alerts for parts of Uttar Pradesh, warning of strong winds and the possibility of power disruptions due to falling trees and damaged electricity lines. District administrations were advised to remain alert as sudden weather changes could affect normal services.
According to weather officials, the influence of western disturbances is expected to continue for the next few days. This may lead to further rain and snowfall in higher reaches of the Himalayas, along with fluctuating temperatures in the plains. Residents, travellers, and farmers have been advised to remain cautious, especially in areas prone to landslides, waterlogging, and weather-related accidents.

]]>District Magistrate Gaurav Kumar said the accident took place around eight thirty on Tuesday night at the Tunnel Boring Machine site inside the tunnel being constructed by THDC India. A loco train carrying workers for the night shift excavation was nearly two kilometres inside the tunnel when another loco train coming from the opposite direction reportedly lost control and collided with it.
One of the trains was transporting labourers and officials, while the other was carrying construction material. At the time of the collision, one hundred nine people were on board, most of them workers engaged in tunnel construction.
Following the incident, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami directed officials to ensure proper and immediate medical treatment for all the injured. He spoke to the district magistrate and instructed the administration to provide the best possible healthcare facilities.
District Magistrate Gaurav Kumar and Superintendent of Police Surjit Singh Panwar visited the injured at the Gopeshwar district hospital. Officials said eighty four workers were discharged after receiving first aid, while four remain under medical observation.
The district magistrate and the superintendent of police also inspected the project site and sought a detailed report from project officials. They instructed the authorities to strictly enforce all safety measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
After the inspection, the district administration formally ordered a magisterial inquiry to determine the cause of the collision and fix responsibility.
Meanwhile, the Railways clarified that the trains involved in the incident were not part of the Indian Railways network. Officials stated that the vehicles were rail like trolleys used locally within the tunnel for transporting workers, staff, and construction material during the hydropower project work.
The Vishnugad Pipalkoti hydropower project is being developed on the Alaknanda River between Helang and Pipalkoti. Once completed, the project is expected to generate four hundred forty four megawatts of electricity through four turbines and is targeted for completion next year.

]]>The Devasthanam Board, which came into existence during the tenure of Trivendra Singh Rawat, controls the management of 51 temples, including Chardham.
Dhami gave the assurance to a delegation of priests, ”hak-hakookdharis” and members of Panda Samaj led by Devprayag MLA Vinod Kandari and former MLA from Kedarnath Shaila Rani Rawat.
Senior BJP leader Manohar Kant Dhyani has been asked to submit his recommendations to the state government only after listening to pilgrimage priests (teerth-purohits) and knowing their apprehensions, Dhami said.
“The state government will listen to all stakeholders and address their concerns. The Devasthanam Board will not be allowed to hurt the interest of teerth purohits, hak hakookdharis and Panda Samaj,” Dhami said.
“There should be no communication gap. A solution will be found through talks. All doubts will be addressed and amendments made wherever required,” he told the delegation.
Before the implementation of Badrinath master plan begins, everyone concerned will be heard, he assured.
Teerth purohits, hak hakookdharis and members of Panda Samaj have been agitating for months demanding dissolution of the Devasthanam Board, saying it infringes upon their rights.

Col Ajay Kothiyal (Retd) said it is a matter of pride for him that the party has given them the responsibility to lead it in the coming elections. Recalling his role in the reconstruction of Kedarnath, he said nothing is impossible if one is determined.
“If we want to do something good in the state, we have to bring AAP model of governance here. I was impressed by this model and that is why I joined AAP,” he said.
Later, Kejriwal and Col Ajay Kothiyal participated in a roadshow, Devbhoomi Sankalp Yatra, from Ghantaghar to Dilaram Chowk in Dehradun.
Kothiyal joined AAP in April this year in the presence of the party’s state unit president SS Kaler in Haridwar. The party, which would be contesting on all the 70 seats in the state assembly, is banking on his army background and his popularity to work in its favour.
With less than a year left for the state assembly elections, AAP is pulling out all stops in wooing the public. On his last visit on July 11, Kejriwal announced 300 units of free electricity to domestic consumers if AAP came to power. He stressed on replicating AAP’s Delhi model of governance in Uttarakhand. He had said if voted to power, his party will bring a major change in the schools and health infrastructure.

He added that tourists from other parts of state won’t be stopped, but they will have to submit RT-PCR test report and register on Smart City portal before coming to Haridwar.
“Forces have been deployed on the borders of Haridwar district. Instructions are to request those coming to the border to go back. If anyone persists, action will be taken,” Kumar said.
If anyone sends a tanker in a systematic way, we will help them in collecting Gangajal, the police chief added.
The Har Ki Pauri ghat (river bank) in Haridwar has been sealed for Kanwariyas from July 24 to August 6. The decision was taken during an inter-state border meeting in Haridwar in which officers of Uttar Pradesh, Himachal, Punjab, Delhi and Haryana were present.
