The Tamil Nadu government took this decision after holding discussions with a medical panel and a legislature committee comprising of members from all parties.</div>

<div>The Chief Minister said in his statement &#8220;To control the spread of the pandemic, the ongoing lockdown will be implemented from May 24 for another week without any relaxations,&#8221;  The restrictions will come into effect from Monday.</div>

<div>Accordingly, for people&#8217;s benefit shops will remain open till 9 pm on Saturday and from 6 am to 9 pm on Sunday, when otherwise a day-long total shutdown will be in place. Pharmacies can remain open during the extended lockdown while distribution of milk, water and newspapers will continue.</div>

The message comes timely and it has been substantiated by medical experts. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">In a press statement, he said that self-medication can be dangerous while he also raised concern against the use of steam inhalation. &#8220;Hot and pressurized air&#8221; can cause damage to the lungs and also since during the inhalation mouth is opened, there is a huge risk of transmission of the virus. Since corona affects the lungs, he suggested people should not resort to this method without consulting their doctors first. </span></p>
