The governing Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP or People&#8217;s Front)-led alliance lost its support in the 225-member legislature after over 42 MPs, notably important ally Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP).</p>
<p>Their departure indicated the government&#8217;s reputation plummeting, which had given it a commanding two-thirds mandate in 2020. However, no vote of confidence has been set to assess the government&#8217;s or opposition&#8217;s power.</p>
