The Ministry of Education has received various suggestions regarding the class 12th board examination. It includes- conducting exams only for the main subjects, giving marks based on an internal assessment, or conducting the examination phase-wise.

PTI news agency quoted, citing the CBSE sources,”Conducting pen and paper mode exams for only major subjects, conducting all exams in two phases planned as per the COVID-19 situation in different states and districts, or cancelling the exams and announcing results as per an alternative assessment scheme”.

Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’, Union Education Minister, will take these suggestions to the meeting scheduled on May 23. The principals of the schools have varied views on the matter.

Sangeeta Hajela, Principal of DPS Indrapuram said,”For subjects with very few enrollments, the OTP linked delivery of paper to be printed and conducted at home Centres, is also a possibility”.

Rajat Goel, Director of MGR Universities said,”There can be another part of aptitude test that can be made an intrinsic part of question papers as it will help them in passing the entrance exams of various universities or colleges”.

The National Education Policy announced in July 2020 has been facing strict opposition by the recently formed DMK government. The proposed three language formula does not seem to work for them. Even the previous AIADMK government had made it clear that they would stick to the two language formula.

“The implementation of three language systems would pave the way for imposition of Hindi and Sanskrit. Through the policy, the centre insists that there should be two Indian languages, Tamil will naturally be the first language here. Centre is talking as if English foes not exist. Ours is a multi-cultural and multi-linguistic society and we can’t accept the imposition of Hindi and Sanskrit.”The School Education Minister of Tamil Nadu, Anbil Mahesh Poyyamazohi.

Poyyamazohi also said that they also offered some solutions but there has been no response from the centre. In view of this, they had boycotted the meeting convened by Ramesh Pokhriyal, “Nishank”. It was organized to discuss the implementation of NEP with the State Education Secretaries.

An anti-coronavirus drug is developed by the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and will be launched tomorrow. It will be launched with the Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh distributing around 10,000 doses of the same to some hospitals in the national capital.

The drug is called 2-deoxy-D-glucose or 2-DG and was developed by a DRDO lab in collaboration with Hyderabad-based pharma company, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories. The country’s top drug regulator, Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI), has approved the medicine for emergency use.

The drug has shown excellent results in its phase 2 and phase 3 clinical trials. The medicine was developed to be safe for COVID-19 patients in phase 2 trials which was conducted between May and October. It was also found that it is successful in cutting short the hospital stays of patients and reducing supplemental use of oxygen.
