<p>&#8220;I told you so&#8230; he is not a stable man and not fit for the border state of Punjab,&#8221; said Amarinder Singh, the former Chief Minister, shortly after. Punjab cabinet minister Razia Sultana also quit hours later &#8220;in solidarity with Navjot Sidhu&#8221;. The resignations came just months before the Punjab election.</p>

<p>In a letter to Congress President Sonia Gandhi, Mr. Sidhu stated that he intends to continue serving the party. He became the state party&#8217;s leader in July of this year.</p>
