]]>“TV, OTT and films are all entertainment and every kind of content can survive there. I feel, one might have loads of glamour and the other might lack a bit, but all mediums give actors the opportunity and satisfaction of performing in front of the camera. Most importantly, actors get recognition, no matter which platform they act in,” says Shringarpure.
The 43-year-old actor, who will be seen in a web show soon, weighs in on OTT giving tough competition to films and television, and says, “OTT has seasons and most films are two or three hours long but a serial is a continuous process. Keeping the audiences hooked to a show for 365 days with the story and performances is a tough job. On TV, to survive in the audience’s heart, on screen in the living room where one might not get the complete attention of the viewer at times, is a big achievement. To survive everyday on TV is a task.”
Known for his performances in the film Sarkar Raj (2008) and TV series Chandragupta Maurya (2011) among others, Shringarpure admits that age has refined him. “A person grows with age and after experiencing varied emotions, it gets easier to emote. In fact, in Hollywood, so many actors got success after 40. And today, there many experiments happening on TV, which has gone through a lot of change in the recent years,” he explains.
He has been shooting for his TV show in a bio-bubble outside Mumbai and shares that while professionally the lockdown helped him, “personally all of us suffered in varying degrees”. “The pandemic and lockdowns are disturbing but you can’t let that hold you back. Every individual has to find a space where they can keep themselves mentally strong. Luckily for me, after the first unlock, I got my current historical TV show, so it kept me busy.

]]>The actor, who has no plans of ‘celebrating’ the day, says, “Some people, who you have worked with, reach out and point out that ‘I posted a wish for you and you didn’t reply’. The expectation is fine and it always feels good to get good wishes. But I like celebrating the birthdays of others as I feel shy cutting my birthday cake. When I was younger, I looked forward to gifts and my mum’s gulab jamun cake. I would plan for it a month in advance. Now, I wait for her to send me a cake. I guess, when you have less resources, you feel the charm of birthdays.
After his recent web series, Sunflower, Grover is preparing to shoot for a film in September and another project that starts in November. He admits that after his recent projects including Tandav, which garnered encouraging response for him, he is “now enjoying acting”.
The Bharat (2019) actor says, “It is fun to act and I am getting the kind of work I want. I am looking forward to the new film project, which is exciting. Producers want to start shooting but the pandemic has upset many plans. Everyone is scared and can’t decide when to start. Standing costs have increased, so everyone is wary. There are shoots happening abroad and India too, but things will take time to get into full swing.”
Grover, who established himself as a comic actor on television, often gets offers for TV projects and now has offers for web shows and films too. He says he doesn’t differentiate between mediums. “TV, OTT and films are all part of entertainment. I am here because of TV and I do get offers for TV. If I get something suitable, I will do it. I am currently enjoying acting and I am getting the kind of work I want to do. I would like to explore that more for now,” he explains.
With digital platforms getting a boost and people turning to them for fresh content, Grover is glad that eventually, talent is getting “opportunities to shine”. He adds, “There is so much consumption of content -be it on OTT or even social media too. I guess, the more, the merrier. People can watch what they want on OTT. On the other hand, due to too many options, survive wohi karega, jo log dekhenge. So, by default, the bar is raised each time for you to perform and create something. The audiences benefit from that and get good content.”

]]>The pandemic in fact gave a boost to such platforms, and today, it has emerged as the mainstay of the entertainment industry. With people turning to them for fresh content, the demand clearly has increased. In such a scenario, some also feel that the quality has lost it’s charm.
What does the 36-year-old feel about this? She says, “I don’t know if there is any reason for it. Any space which is changing constantly, there is bound to be something good and something bad. It is not possible that all content on OTT will be great. It is not true.”
Dugal feels that good content is still releasing, so viewers won’t feel any void. “If as an audience I watch six trailers, two-three will be interesting, that is a fairly good ratio. Good and bad both will exist. The reason, I am not sure if for some of the content not being promising, is the increase in demand,” the actor tells us.

]]>He adds: “When I went for Eid celebrations to my brother’s place yesterday (Thursday) for a bit, there was a social media table at the dining table. There were six people sitting on their phones seeing what they wanted to see and gathering information about something and the OTT platforms make it more personal.”
The actor, who found his lady love Pavitra Punia on the show, added: “You do not go on a community television at home and see a show… It’s not like that anymore. So, it (OTT) is personal and everything has to move. A show like Bigg Boss which sometimes has mature content should come on OTT and it is a good thing.”
Directed by Nagesh Kukunoor, “City Of Dreams” also stars Atul Kulkarni, Priya Bapat and Sachin Pilgaonkar. It will be released on Disney+Hotstar.
