]]> According to the India Meteorological Department, significant rain is expected in Mumbai during the next three days. Heavy rains were anticipated to begin on Sunday, climax on Tuesday, and linger periodically for the remainder of the week.

The IMD forecasts overcast skies with medium rain/thundershowers throughout the urban core. There is also a chance of heavy to very heavy rain in remote areas.

Earlier, forecasters expected that rainfall would begin on Saturday, but this has been delayed owing to the creation of an east-west shear zone (an region packed with conflicting winds) over the north Konkan coast.

Patil claimed that on Sunday there were extensive showers on the coastline of Karnataka and the southern interior of Karnataka.

“There is a broad risk of rainfall throughout the whole of Karnataka from 13 to 17 June. The rains are expected to be high or very severe from 13 to 17 June in Uttar Kannada, Udupi, Dakshin Kannada. The orange alert will be reported from 13 to 17 June “Patil said.

]]> The IMD on Saturday issued an orange alert warning of very heavy rains with thunderstorms and lightning in six districts, including Jabalpur and Narsinghpur, in east Madhya Pradesh and a yellow alert predicting heavy rains with thunderstorms and lightning at isolated places in eight districts including Vidisha and Hoshangabad as the southwest monsoon is expected to advance in the state in the next 24 hours. Another yellow alert forecasting a “thunderstorm with lightning and lightning falls” has been sounded for isolated places in five divisions including Indore, Gwalior and Chambal. The Met department also predicted that such weather conditions will prevail in 10 districts including Bhopal.

All three alerts remain valid till Sunday morning.

Senior meteorologist at the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhopal PK Saha said though southwest monsoon did not spread (advance) on Saturday in Madhya Pradesh, it is going to advance in the state in the next 24 hours.

Southwest monsoon had covered entire Jabalpur and Hoshangabad divisions, large parts of Indore and Shahdol divisions and some parts of Bhopal and Sagar divisions on Friday, a day after its onset in some parts of MP, the senior officer said.

Large parts of Madhya Pradesh received rains in the last 24 hours, Saha said, adding Devri in Sagar district in eastern MP and Nasrullahganj at Sehore district in western MP recorded 113 mm and 106 mm rainfall, respectively in the last 24 hours ending 8.30 am on Saturday.

]]> The meteorological department has issued an ‘orange’ alert for heavy rain in several parts of Delhi. The Met department said in its latest statement that there is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places in Delhi. The weakening of the cyclonic storm Tauktae and the western disturbance is the reason of the scenario. Strong winds are also expected to blow with a speed of 60 kmph.

The IMD has also predicted water eruption in various areas which will cause major traffic disruption. Delhi and the neighbouring areas have received a moderate rainfall today.  According to the weather office, the rainfall is most likely to decrease on Thursday.

The highest temperature in the moved to a bit more than 30 degrees celsius because of the wind and the rainfall. This is the lowest temperature recorded in the month of May since the last four years.

]]> The commercial operations of the flights were affected in Mumbai due to the cyclone Tauktae. Several flights were cancelled whereas many were returned and diverted from the airport. The flights were closed down on monday between 11 am and 10 pm. A number of 34 arrivals and 22 departure flights cancelled whereas seven flights were diverted.

Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) said in a statement,”The airport has so far witnessed 7 diversions. In the wake of the alert, a few airlines have decided to  cancel services to Mumbai. CSMIA has registered the cancellations of 34 arrivals and 22 departure flights”.

The Indian Meteorological Department has earlier issued an orange alert for Mumbai due to the prediction of heavy to very heavy rainfall.

A number of 12 Air India flights were operated till 11 am on Monday. However, the airline later cancelled its five deoartures.
