										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Myanmar will vaccinate minority Muslim Rohingya people against the coronavirus, a spokesman for its ruling military said on Friday, adding that no one will be left behind in its inoculation campaign.</p>
<p>Hundreds of thousands of Rohingya fled to Bangladesh during military operations in 2017 and those who remain complain of discrimination and mistreatment in a country that does not recognise them as citizens.</p>
<p>Spokesman Zaw Min Tun said authorities were making progress in reducing coronavirus infections and increasing vaccinations and aimed to inoculate half of the country&#8217;s population by the end of this year.</p>
<p>Myanmar reported 2,635 new coronavirus infections and 113 additional deaths on Thursday, though the number of daily cases and reported fatalities have come down from a peak hit in July.</p>
<p>The vaccinations would include Rohingya people in Maungdaw and Buthidaung districts bordering Bangladesh, he said.</p>
<p>He referred to them as &#8220;Bengalis&#8221;, a term used for decades in Buddhist majority Myanmar to describe Rohingya, a group many regard as unwanted immigrants from neighbouring Bangladesh.</p>
<p>&#8220;They are also our people as well,&#8221; Zaw Min Tun told a regular news conference. &#8220;We will not leave anyone behind.&#8221;</p>
<p>It was not immediately clear whether the vaccination campaign would extend to Rohingya Muslims living in densely-packed camps in Rakhine state and what the qualification criteria would be.</p>
<p>The issue is deeply sensitive in Myanmar, where animosity about Rohingya runs deep. International rights groups say hundreds of thousands of stateless Rohingya should be entitled to citizenship rather than be discriminated against and branded illegal immigrants.</p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400">The Association of the Southeast Nations (ASEAN) has been leading the main diplomatic effort on member country Myanmar since a feb 1 coup plunged it into turmoil. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">Myanmar has descended into chaos after the coup, with hundreds of protesters killed by security forces and thousands jailed amid paralysing strikes and spreading conflict in border regions. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">During a video call conference with ASEAN foreign ministers on wednesday, Blinken urged ASEAN to take “immediate action” on a five-point consensus, agreed upon in April. </span></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Around 38 people died in Myanmar&#8217;s capital Yangon and other cities in a shootout on protesters on Sunday. A police officer was also killed during the violence, while three others were injured. Three Chinese garment factories in Hellingthaya have been set on fire by protesters angry over China&#8217;s support for military dictatorship. The protesters have also threatened to blow up a pipeline of natural gas going to China. Slogans were raised against China in many places, which scared the Chinese living here.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Martial law has been implemented in Myanmar on behalf of the military dictatorship. Earlier on Saturday, 13 protesters were killed by security forces by firing bullets. More than 100 people have died in the demonstrations that have been taking place in the country since the last few weeks after the military took power, while more than 2100 people have been detained, according to the Political Prisoners Advocacy Group. On Monday, today, Myanmar&#8217;s most popular leader Suu Kyi will be presented in court again.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">According to the information, the latest violence comes a day after Man Vin Khaing Tan, the leader of the parallel civilian government formed in the country, appealed to the protesters to protect themselves. Demonstrations are increasing more after his statement. Hundreds of people joined in by taking home-made shields and wearing helmets.</p>
