The National Medical Commission, the nation’s biggest governing agency for medical schools, has announced that the age limit for sitting in the undergraduate medical entrance test, NEET-UG, has been eliminated for all applicants. Previously, the age requirement for general category applicants was 25 years, while for reserved categories it was 30 years.

The decision has been made at the fourth NMC meeting in October of last year, according to Dr. Pulkesh Kumar, the commission’s Secretary.

Mansukh Mandaviya, the Minister of Health and Family Welfare, announced on Twitter, “The National Medical Commission has decided to eliminate the upper age restriction for taking the NEET-UG test. The decision would be extremely beneficial to prospective professionals and will contribute to the country’s medical education being strengthened.”

Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Minister for Health, will preside over a review meeting on Monday, officials said, as dengue cases in Delhi continue to rise alarmingly. According to the officials, the meeting will begin at 10 a.m. During the meeting, the health minister will also discuss how the Centre can help the Delhi government, led by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), to reduce the increase in cases.

Officials from the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and the National Vector Borne Disease Control Program will also attend the meeting (NVBDCP). Every year, when the monsoon arrives, the city experiences a dengue outbreak, which usually ends when the winter season arrives. However, the city has seen a significant increase in cases this year, which is still ongoing.

On Sunday, August 22, 2021, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya declared that Afghan returnees will be vaccinated against polio for free as a preventive precaution against the wild polio virus.

As a precautionary action against the Wild Polio Virus, we have chosen to vaccinate Afghanistan returnees with free Polio Vaccine (OPV & IPV). Mandaviya congratulated the Health Team for their efforts to protect public health and tweeted a snapshot of a vaccination push at the Delhi International Airport.

It’s worth noting that polio is still widespread in only two countries in the world: Afghanistan and Pakistan.

The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the need of creating vigilance and awareness on zoonotic diseases, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Friday said.

He made the remarks while virtually inaugurating the Whole Genome Sequencing National Reference Laboratory for Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) and BSL 3 Laboratory on the 112th Annual Day of the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

Congratulating NCDC for its contributions, Mandaviya said that India has performed better than many other countries in fighting the pandemic, a Health ministry statement stated.

He said new dimensions have been added today in the legacy of 112 years of achievements of NCDC and encouraged it to strive for further innovations so that not only India but the whole world can benefit from its work.

Scientists, doctors, officers and staff of NCDC should collectively chart out goals they want to achieve in the coming years, he said.

“The recent COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the need of creating vigilance and awareness on zoonotic diseases,” he said, adding that division of Zoonotic Disease Programme at NCDC under the “National One health Programme for prevention and Control of Zoonoses” has created IEC materials on seven priority zoonotic diseases namely Rabies, Scrub Typhus, Brucellosis, Anthrax, CCHF, Nipah and Kyasanur Forest Disease in India.

Zonotic diseases pass from animal or insect to humans.

Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister of State for Health, stated on Tuesday that the Centre has never instructed any state to register fewer fatalities or cases.

“The Centre collects and records systems submitted by state governments. Our only task is to disseminate such information. We have not instructed anybody to provide lower numbers (of fatalities) or fewer positive instances. There is no justification for that,” Mandaviya remarked during a Rajya Sabha debate.

He further stated that people’s resolve, together with PM Modi’s leadership, can safeguard us from a third wave.

Earlier this morning, the head of the alternative in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, stated that the administration, like demonetization, did not plan for a covid-19 shutdown and should be held liable for this.
