]]> Manish Sisodia, a senior Aam Aadmi Party leader and Delhi deputy chief minister has slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party for making immature reasons’ to postpone local body polls in the country’s capital, telling the saffron party to ‘stop sobbing like Congress.’

Sisodia also chastised the BJP for ‘misusing’ government agencies, saying that the party had utilized the Enforcement Directorate and the Central Bureau of Investigation to ‘intimidate MCD (Municipal Corporation of Delhi) personnel so that the civic polls may be postponed.’

The BJP criticized Arvind Kejriwal for ‘starving local bodies’ of finances on Friday. Aadesh Gupta, the Delhi unit chairman, and Smriti Irani, a federal minister, alleged the Kejriwal government owed civic entities in the centre of the country $13,000 crore. “Kejriwal is depriving local bodies of finances, which is undermining democracy at the roots,” Smriti Irani remarked.

]]> As Covid-19 cases continue to diminish in the city and more people are getting vaccinated against the disease, New Delhi’s deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia stated on Wednesday that schools in the Capital will be allowed to resume in-person attendance for all courses beginning on Monday.

 

In-person classes are currently only allowed in New Delhi schools for students in Class 9 and higher.

 

After attending Wednesday’s meeting of the DDMA, Manish Sisodia said: “The government, the officials in the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), and experts are of the opinion that suspension of in-person classes in schools is tremendously affecting overall growth in children. The authority feels it is now safe to restart schools fully. From November 1, all public and private schools will be allowed to open all classes for in-person attendance.”

]]> All final exams for classes 9 and 11 in Delhi schools, which were postponed due to the complete closure of schools in April, have now been cancelled, deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia announced Thursday.

“The class 9 and 11 exams, which had been postponed on April 11, have now been cancelled. Private schools which have completed their mid-term and annual exams can declare their exam results and promote students based on that. In schools, where only the mid-term exams have been conducted, schools may use the mid-term exam marks to declare class 9 and 11 results. Where some mid-term papers were conducted but not others, students’ results will be declared on the basis of the two subjects in which they performed the best,” he said. Using the alternate means, government schools have been asked to declare their results on June 22.

He further added, “There are some students who may have written only one paper or no mid-term exams, and some who didn’t pass the mid-term exams. All these children will be given the chance to write exams but not physically. This will be through re-assessment project and assignment for which detailed guidelines will be issued.”

Sisodia also announced that the online registration for admission to Delhi government schools for classes 6 to 9 will begin tomorrow. The registration process will continue till June 30 and the admission lists will be prepared by July 14. For those left behind in this round, another round of registrations will begin on July 23.

]]> Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia questioned as to why PM Narendra Modi’s interaction with the District Magistrates was aired live on TV. Sisodia tweeted “In today’s meeting, the Prime Minister’s statement was aired live on TV. He had objected to the last meeting by CM Arvind Kejriwal. Today’s protocol allowed for live broadcast?”

This was a remark in context to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s protocol statement on April 23 when Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal aired few of his comments live on Social media while on a meeting with the Prime Minister. “This is a violation of the protocol. Such official meetings cannot be broadcast,” PM had then said.  Later, Kejriwal had also apologized for the same.

The tweet came in shortly after the Prime Minister’s meeting with the District Magistrates and Chief Ministers of the worst hit districts aired live on TV. Sisodia tweeted asking,” How to know which meeting can be broadcasted live, which one cannot?”
