The post Bombay High Court Flags Concerns Over Reduction of Zeeshan Siddique’s Security appeared first on The Edge Media.
]]>A bench of Justices A S Gadkari and R R Bhonsale made the remarks while hearing a petition filed by Shehzeen Siddique, the widow of Baba Siddique, who sought the transfer of the murder investigation to an independent and impartial agency.

Baba Siddique was shot dead by three attackers outside Zeeshan’s office in Bandra on the night of October 12, 2024. In her petition, Shehzeen stated that her husband had repeatedly voiced concerns about his safety and had requested the restoration of police protection in the weeks leading up to his death.
Following the murder, Zeeshan was granted police security after submitting a formal application. However, Shehzeen’s counsel, advocate Pradeep Gharat, told the court that the police scaled down Zeeshan’s security after the petition was filed.
The bench then directed the police to produce the Minutes of Meeting of the committee where the decision to reduce the security cover was taken.
Public prosecutor Mankunwar Deshmukh placed before the court a file containing threat perception reports(TPR) used by the police to assess whether to grant, modify or withdraw security protection. She denied that the reduction in security was linked to the filing of the petition.
The court nevertheless asked for specific details regarding when and how the decision to reduce Zeeshan’s security was reached.

]]>The deceased, originally from Beed district, had been employed at a government facility in Phaltan tehsil. Police were alerted after the woman’s body was discovered hanging in her hotel room, an official confirmed.
Taking immediate notice of the case, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis spoke to the Satara Superintendent of Police and ordered the suspension of the two officers named in the note. Fadnavis, who also heads the Home Department, directed authorities to take strict legal action against all those involved, the Chief Minister’s Office stated in an official release.
In a note written on her palm, the doctor alleged that Sub-Inspector Gopal Badane had raped and sexually assaulted her multiple times over the past five months. Another police official, Prashant Bankar, was accused of mentally harassing her during the same period.
Police confirmed that a case has been registered and that the victim’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination. Investigations are underway into the allegations mentioned in the note.
Reacting to the incident, Maharashtra State Women’s Commission Chief Rupali Chakankar said, “We have taken serious note of the matter and directed Satara Police to take strong action against the accused. Dedicated teams are tracking down those responsible, and no one involved will be spared.”
The case has sparked widespread outrage, with calls for a thorough investigation and justice for the victim.

]]>These police personnel includes assistant police inspector Anandrao Kale, who was in-charge of Kasa Police Station in Palghar when the incident took place on April 16, the official said.
Two others are assistant sub inspector Ravi Salunke and constable Naresh Dhodi, he said. “The Inspector General of Police, Konkan Range dismissed the trio from service through an order issued on Saturday,” the official added. These three police personnel, along with their five other colleagues, had been placed under suspension following the incident, he said.
Two seers and their driver were lynched by a mob at Gadchinchale village in Palghar on April 16 when they were travelling in a car to Surat (Gujarat) to attend a funeral amid the corona virus-induced lock down. The victims were identified by the police as Chikne Maharaj Kalpavrukshagiri (70), Sushil Giri Maharaj (35) and their driver Nilesh Telgade (30).
The brutal mob attack took place amid rumours that child-lifters were roaming in the area. As many as 154 people have been arrested and 11 juveniles detained in connection with the incident. The accused in the case were charged with murder, armed rioting and using criminal force to prevent a public servant from doing is duty, among other offences, police said.
The case was later handed over to the Maharashtra Criminal Investigation Department for probe. It has filed three charge sheets in the case. After the incident caused an uproar, the state government had suspended Kale, under whose jurisdiction the crime took place, and seven other policemen. Besides, over 35 police constables and personnel of other ranks were transferred in the wake of the mob attack.
