]]>The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board has stepped up enforcement measures against air pollution in Mumbai by shutting down four ready mix concrete plants and initiating action against 37 units, recovering penalties worth ₹1.87 crore. The action comes as part of a broader drive to ensure strict compliance with environmental norms across construction related activities in the region.
MPCB member secretary M Devender Singh said special flying squads have been deployed to immediately inspect RMC plants and verify adherence to prescribed pollution control conditions. He added that strict action, including closure of facilities, will be taken against units found violating norms that contribute to deteriorating air quality.
Following a high level review meeting chaired by MPCB chairman Siddhesh Kadam, the board constituted four special inspection teams for Mumbai city and two teams for Navi Mumbai. These teams are conducting on site inspections to strengthen enforcement and take swift action against non compliant plants.
The review focused on tightening oversight of industries linked to dust and particulate emissions, especially RMC units, which are considered a major source of construction related air pollution.
In a related move, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation recently suspended bullet train related construction work at the Bandra Kurla Complex after finding lapses in compliance with anti air pollution measures.
According to the MPCB, inspections carried out so far have resulted in penalties amounting to ₹1.87 crore being recovered from 37 ready mix concrete plants, while four units have been ordered to stop operations due to serious environmental violations. The board has indicated that inspections and enforcement actions will continue in the coming weeks to curb rising pollution levels.

]]>The teacher has been dismissed from the private school located in Sativali, in the Vasai area and has been charged under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for culpable homicide not amounting to murder according to officials from the Waliv police station.
The student reportedly arrived late on November 8 and was told to perform the sit ups as punishment. Her mother stated that the child was forced to do the exercise while carrying her school bag calling it an inhuman act.
Authorities said the thirteen year old student had pre existing health concerns and was unable to withstand the punishment. She later fell, seriously ill and was admitted to a hospital in Mumbai, where she passed away after seven days.
The incident triggered protests from local residents and members of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, which led to the police filing a case. The teacher was arrested on Tuesday night, according to the official.
The state education department has begun an inquiry into the matter, while the Vasai Virar Municipal Corporation has also started its own investigation.

According to officials, Arya had called several boys and girls aged around fifteen to a local studio under the pretext of holding auditions for a web series. During the incident, he carried an air gun and some chemical substances. Joint Commissioner of Police Satyanaranyan Choudhary confirmed that all children were rescued safely.
Police received an emergency call around 1:45 pm reporting that a man had confined children inside R A Studio located in the Mahavir Classic building.
Teams from the Powai police station, Quick Response Team, Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad, and the fire department quickly reached the spot to handle the crisis.
Before the rescue, Arya posted a video online claiming that he wanted to talk to certain people and did not intend to ask for money. He also threatened to set the studio on fire if his demands were ignored.
When negotiations failed, officers entered the premises through a bathroom and managed to rescue all hostages including a senior citizen and another man.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Datta Nalawade described the situation as highly sensitive, emphasizing that saving the children was the top priority. He noted that officers handled the situation with extreme caution to prevent harm to any of the hostages.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis assured that the state government would release further details soon and praised the police team for their swift and effective action.

]]>Ms Thakur made the announcement in Jalgaon district on Saturday when a small girl approached her and told her that she earned her living by begging.
The minister, who was on a visit to Jalgaon and Dhule districts, expressed anger and disappointment towards police and raised concern over the growing problem of child beggars in the state.
“A skill development programme has been undertaken for child and adult beggars and its strategy will be implemented soon. There are gangs of beggars in many places, so we need to be sensitive about such issues. Begging is a crime under law,” Ms Thakur told reporters.
During her visit to Dhule, Ms Thakur met children who were orphaned and rendered homeless due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
She held discussions with officials on how government schemes could benefit them.
On the occasion, the minister also provided an immediate financial help to such children.
“We need to think beyond the government aid and policy for orphans,” Ms Thakur said.
She expressed the need for education, nutrition and safety of children orphaned due to COVID-19.
The government will always be ready to help such children. Immediate action should be taken to provide these children with various government benefits, including ration cards, the minister said.
These children should also be counselled from time-to-time, she said.
Problems related to their properties should also be looked into immediately, she added.
