Relatives and neighbours continue to visit the home of Seema Prajapati, who died on December 29, to pay their respects, but many are refusing to drink water at her residence or are carrying their own bottles. The family, which survives on daily wage labour, has been forced to offer packaged cold drinks to visitors due to widespread fear of contamination.

According to Seema’s brother Jitendra Prajapati, she was in good health a day before her death. In the early hours of the morning, she suddenly began vomiting and suffering from severe diarrhoea. Her condition deteriorated so rapidly that she died while being taken to hospital.

The incident has shaken Indore’s Bhagirathpura area, where at least six people have lost their lives and hundreds have fallen ill after consuming contaminated drinking water.

District officials stated that nearly four hundred patients were admitted to hospitals, with more than half later discharged, while several remain in intensive care. Authorities traced the contamination to sewage seeping into a drinking water pipeline after a public toilet was constructed directly above it without a septic tank.

Jitendra’s teenage daughter was also hospitalised with similar symptoms but later recovered. He said the water supplied to homes had appeared dirty for over a month and had developed a bitter taste in recent days. With no alternative source available, families were forced to boil the supplied water for daily use. Complaints made by residents regarding water quality allegedly went unanswered.

Indore depends on Narmada river water, which is distributed through municipal pipelines on alternate days. Following the outbreak, water supply to the affected area was stopped and tankers were deployed, though residents reported that tanker water also appeared discoloured. Some narrow lanes have not yet been reached, forcing families to collect water from relatives’ homes with borewell connections.

Fearing further illness, many households have installed RO water filters, while residents now consume food and beverages only from places using purified or mineral water. Health teams have been deployed across Bhagirathpura to screen residents and identify those showing symptoms, as officials work to contain the spread.

While compensation of Rs 2 lakh has been announced for some affected families, several claim they have not received adequate assistance. Bihari Kori, whose wife Uma died after suffering similar symptoms, said no compensation has reached him yet. He recounted how her condition worsened overnight and how the lack of transport forced them to take her to hospital on a motorcycle. By the time she was admitted, she was declared dead, adding to the growing toll of the tragedy.

Madhya Pradesh | A fifty eight year old tribal woman from Kushepur village in Madhya Pradesh’s Guna district, died after waiting in a fertiliser queue, for two straight days, according to her family members.

The incident took place late on Wednesday, at the Bagri fertiliser distribution centre where the woman identified as Bhuriya Bai, had reportedly stayed overnight after spending an entire day in line. Relatives said she suddenly began vomiting, while waiting for her turn and was taken to a hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

Guna Collector Kishore Kumar Kanyal stated that the initial information indicated, she had diabetes and that her health worsened after standing in the queue for an extended period. Kanyal visited Kushepur village along with former minister Mahendra Singh Sisodia and met the family.

The death triggered political reactions as Guna MP and Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia expressed grief and instructed officials to provide immediate help while BJP MLA Pannalal Shakya publicly questioned the fertiliser distribution process and criticised the district administration during a public event.

Shakya asked why such long queues were forming and suggested that the mismanagement damaged the reputation of the constituency leadership, demanding answers from the collector in the presence of Scindia. Neither Scindia nor the collector responded to the MLA’s remarks during the programme.

On Scindia’s directions the administration sanctioned financial aid of two lakh rupees for the family and an additional ten thousand rupees through the Red Cross. He also sought a detailed investigation into the incident and called for action against any officials found responsible.

Madhya Pradesh | A five-month-old girl from Chhindwara district in Madhya Pradesh has reportedly died after taking an Ayurvedic cough syrup and a medicinal powder. According to local authorities, the child, identified as Ruhi Minote, had been suffering from a cold and cough. Her family bought the products from Kuratha Medical Shop four days before her death, prompting officials to seal the store for investigation.

Investigation Underway

Chaurai Sub-Divisional Magistrate Prabhat Mishra confirmed that a case of unnatural death has been filed. Samples of both the syrup and the powder have been sent for laboratory testing, while the child’s viscera has been forwarded to the forensic science laboratory in Jabalpur. Authorities are awaiting the post-mortem report to determine the exact cause of death.

Link to Previous Cough Syrup Deaths

This incident occurred just two weeks after the last reported fatality associated with the consumption of the cough syrup brand Coldrif. Earlier this year, 24 children—21 from Chhindwara, two from Betul, and one from Pandhurna—died of renal failure linked to the same brand. Tests revealed that Coldrif contained 48.6 percent diethylene glycol, a toxic chemical known to cause severe kidney damage.

Arrests Made in the Case

Following the investigation into the Coldrif deaths, authorities arrested Ranganathan Govindan, owner of Tamil Nadu-based Sresen Pharma, which produced the syrup. Dr. Praveen Soni, a government pediatrician from Parasia in Chhindwara, who allegedly prescribed the medicine, was also arrested earlier in October and remains in judicial custody.

Ongoing Health Concerns

The recent death raises new concerns about the safety of both allopathic and Ayurvedic formulations being sold in local markets. Officials have intensified efforts to test medicinal products and ensure stricter quality control to prevent further tragedies.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said on Saturday that the “most modern” Habibganj railway station in Bhopal has been renamed after the Gond queen Rani Kamlapati, and congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the decision.

Mr. Chouhan praised Rani Kamlapati as the Gond community’s pride and the last Hindu queen of Bhopal, whose realm was deceitfully seized by Afghan commander Dost Mohammed. PM Modi will dedicate the renamed railway station, which has been refurbished with modern airport-like amenities, on November 15, when he visits the MP capital to address a tribal convention commemorating tribal icon and independence warrior Birsa Munda.

The book has sparked outrage, with allegations of defamation of Hindutva leveled against the senior Congressman.

“Congress talks of dividing the country and Salman Khurshid has taken the same idea forward in his book Sunrise Over Ayodhya. We will take opinion from legal experts about banning this book in Madhya Pradesh,” state Home Minister Narottam Mishra said Friday. Calling it a “very condemnable book”, Mishra said, “these people do not leave any opportunity to break Hindutva, divide Hindus into castes.”

Bhindi (Ladyfinger) is one of the most common food items that we find in local markets or grocery stores. While most of us usually prepare this vegetable for lunch or dinner, over the years, it has also become a comfort food that we love to devour. Traditionally known for its green colour and sticky texture, a farmer has now come up with a new red coloured variety in ladyfinger! Yes, you read that right. A red-coloured bhindi does exist and is currently being grown by Misrilal Rajput, a farmer from Madhya Pradesh.

While talking to ANI, the farmer highlighted the benefits of his ‘red ladyfinger’ and said that “The ladyfinger that I grow is red in colour instead of its usual green colour. It is more beneficial and nutritious than green ladyfinger. It is extremely beneficial for people who are facing heart and blood pressure issues, diabetes, high cholesterol,” he said.

When Misrilal Rajput was asked about the process of cultivation, he told ANI that “I had purchased 1 kg seeds from an agricultural research institute in Varanasi. I sowed them in the first week of July. In around 40 days, it started growing.” According to the farmer, no harmful pesticides were used in the cultivation of this red ladyfinger.

As this red ladyfinger is one of a kind, the farmer has kept its price on a higher side. He told ANI that, “This ladyfinger is 5-7 times more expensive than ordinary ladyfingers. It is being sold from Rupees 75-80 to Rupees 300-400 per 250 gram/500 gram in some malls.” He also added that a minimum of 40-50 quintals and a maximum of 70-80 quintals could be grown on an acre of land.

On Thursday, August 26, a 40-year-old tribal man was allegedly thrashed in Madhya Pradesh’s Neemuch area. Following a minor road collision involving the victim and a milkman on a motorcycle, eight guys dragged him behind a car with a rope fastened to the back.

Kanhaiyalal Bheel, the man, died on Friday while being treated at the Neemuch district hospital. Police stated on Saturday that five of the accused had been apprehended.

Gurjar lost his cool after milk spilled on the road owing to the accident, according to the supervisor, and beat up Bheel. Gurjar then summoned his companions, who roughed up Bheel and roped him to the back of a passing truck. Bheel was pulled for a long distance.
