<p class="wp-block-paragraph">India on Wednesday banned 118 more mobile apps with Chinese links, including popular game PUBG, citing data privacy concerns and a threat to national security.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This takes the total count of Chinese-linked mobile apps banned by India to 224.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The 118 apps banned on Wednesday include Baidu, Baidu Express Edition, Alipay, Tencent Watchlist, FaceU, WeChat reading, Government WeChat, Tencent Weiyun, APUS Launcher Pro, APUS Security, Cut Cut, ShareSave by Xiaomi, and CamCard, besides PUBG Mobile and PUBG Mobile Lite, according to an official release.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">&#8220;The government blocks 118 mobile apps which are prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, the security of the state and public order,&#8221; the statement said.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The move comes amid fresh border tensions with China in Ladakh.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The statement cited numerous complaints received by the IT ministry from various sources, including several reports about the misuse of some mobile apps available on Android and iOS platforms for stealing and surreptitiously transmitting users&#8217; data to servers outside India.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">&#8220;The compilation of these data, its mining and profiling by elements hostile to national security and defence of India, which ultimately impinges upon the sovereignty and integrity of India, is a matter of very deep and immediate concern which requires emergency measures,&#8221; the release said.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Earlier on June 29, the government had banned 59 Chinese apps, including hugely popular TikTok and UC Browser, saying they were prejudicial to sovereignty, integrity and security of the country.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">That ban, applicable on apps such as WeChat and Bigo Live, had come in the backdrop of a stand-off along the Line of Actual Control in Ladakh with Chinese troops.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The June ban was followed by blocking of 47 more Chinese apps that were clones and variants of the ones banned earlier.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">On Wednesday, the government said the Electronics and IT Ministry, invoking its powers under section 69A of the Information Technology Act along with relevant rules and in view of the emergent nature of threats, has decided to block the 118 mobile apps.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">These apps have been blocked &#8220;in view of the information available they are engaged in activities which are prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, the security of the state and public order&#8221;, it said.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">&#8220;The Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre, ministry of home affairs has also sent an exhaustive recommendation for blocking these malicious apps.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">“Likewise, there have been similar bipartisan concerns, flagged by various public representatives, both outside and inside the Parliament of India,&#8221; the statement said.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">There has been a strong chorus in the public space to take strict action against apps that harm India&#8217;s sovereignty as well as citizens&#8217; privacy, it added.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">&#8220;On the basis of these and upon receiving of recent credible inputs that information posted, permissions sought, functionality embedded as well as data harvesting practices of above-stated apps raise serious concerns that these apps collect and share data in a surreptitious manner and compromise personal data and information of users that can have a severe threat to the security of the State,&#8221; the statement said.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The latest list also includes mobile applications such as Learn Chinese AI, Hi Meitu, VPN for TikTok, Beauty Camera Plus, along with a host of gaming apps.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The move to ban the apps will safeguard the interests of crores of Indian mobile and internet users, the statement said, adding the decision is a targeted move to ensure safety, security and sovereignty of Indian cyberspace.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">&#8220;In the interest of sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India and security of the state and using the sovereign powers, the Government of India has decided to block the usage of certain apps, used in both mobile and non-mobile Internet-enabled devices,&#8221; it said.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Welcoming the ban, the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) said the move is &#8220;a major milestone step against misdeeds of China and will certainly boost the morale of the country.&#8221;</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">CAIT national president B C Bhartia and secretary general Praveen Khandelwal said banning more Chinese apps was necessary as they &#8220;were always a threat to country&#8217;s safety, security and sovereignty as also for the protection of individual data these apps were accruing through their usages.&#8221;</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Also, &#8220;Apps like PUBG were spoiling the next generation as more and more people of India were consuming their more time on PUBG and other apps,&#8221; they were quoted as saying in a CAIT press statement.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">India is the only country that has been able to stare down China with the might of its border troops and the Chinese will be forced to realise the strategic mistake they are making by provoking a powerful neighbour, BJP leader Varun Gandhi said on Thursday. </p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In an interview with PTI, the saffron party MP from Pilibhit (Uttar Pradesh) also said it was &#8220;a dream come true&#8221; for him as a devotee of Lord Hanuman that the Ram Temple was being built in Ayodhya after years of struggle. Relating August 5, the day when Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the temple, with the country&#8217;s Independence Day, Gandhi said, &#8220;India once had a tryst with destiny in August 1947. It has woken up anew, reconnecting with its civilisational ethos.&#8221;</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">He said a successful resolution of the Ayodhya dispute is a hallmark of India&#8217;s system of governance, democracy and judiciary, while it also depicts a remarkable amity among people of different creeds and faiths in our country. </p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">&#8220;As a bhakt of Hanumanji, the establishment of the foundation stone of the Ram Janambhoomi temple is a dream come true for me,&#8221; the 40-year-old leader said. &#8220;Lord Ram is not just for Hindus, he is a remarkable emblem of the Indic civilisation,&#8221; he added. </p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">On the recent stand-off between India and China at LAC, Gandhi said China has been notably aggressive across most of its border areas in the recent past, with tension observed in South China Sea, Senkaku Islands, Taiwan and in Tibet, but &#8220;India remains the only country that has been able to stare down the Chinese, using its border troops.&#8221; </p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">He further said many policy commentators voice apprehensions about China&#8217;s armed might, but it is often forgotten that India possesses the world&#8217;s largest and most experienced mountain fighting troops. </p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Describing death of India&#8217;s troops in Galwan Valley as a &#8220;seminal moment&#8221; in Indo-China relations, the BJP leader said he is confident that India&#8217;s armed forces, under Prime Minister Modi leadership, will hold forth and force the Chinese to realise the strategic mistake they are making in provoking India.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">India on Friday said it expects China to sincerely work with it towards the objective of achieving &#8220;complete disengagement&#8221; of troops and de-escalation of tension in the border areas in eastern Ladakh.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Anurag Srivastava said full restoration of peace and tranquility in the border areas as agreed to by the two sides is essential in the context of overall development of the bilateral relationship. </p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">&#8220;As the external affairs minister had noted in a recent interview &#8216;the state of the border and the future of our ties, cannot be separated&#8217;,&#8221; Srivastava said at an online media briefing. He said both sides have reached an agreement on broad principles of disengagement and based on it, some progress had been earlier made. </p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">&#8220;I must add that translating these principles on ground is a complex process that requires re-deployment of troops by each side towards their regular posts on their respective sides of the LAC (Line of Actual Control),&#8221; Srivastava said. </p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">&#8220;It is natural that this can be done only through mutually agreed reciprocal actions. While we would like the ongoing disengagement process to be completed at the earliest, it is important to bear in mind that achieving this requires agreed actions by both sides,&#8221; he added.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The MEA spokesperson said India expects that the Chinese side to sincerely work with India towards the objective of complete disengagement and de-escalation and full restoration of peace and tranquility in the border areas as agreed by the Special Representatives of the two countries.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">&#8216;Ambassador Vikram Misri met Liu Jianchao, Deputy Director of the Office of CPC Central Committee Foreign Affairs Commission and briefed him on India&#8217;s stance vis-à-vis the situation on the borders in eastern Ladakh UT and overall bilateral relations,&#8217; the Indian embassy in Beijing said in a tweet.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Earlier this month, India and China held Major General-level talks at Daulat Beg Oldi area to discuss disengagement by the Chinese side along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh sector, said Indian Army sources.<br>The Chinese are sitting near the Finger 5 and Gogra post in Eastern Ladakh and are refusing to disengage completely from there.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><br>India has demanded complete disengagement of the Chinese troops at the earliest.India has also deployed more than 15,000 troops there along with heavy deployment of armoured regiments to counter any possible Chinese thrust.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><br>The Chinese have also come there in with several armoured regiments.<br>India and China have held five rounds of Lieutenant General-level talks between them for disengagement from the eastern Ladakh sector but not much success has been achieved in that direction.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><br>The two countries have been engaged in a standoff in the Eastern Ladakh sector for the past few weeks. </p>
