B. Sriramulu, a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), on Wednesday accused Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of collecting Rs 300 crore from his cabinet ministers to finance the Congress party’s campaign for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections. According to Sriramulu, the money is being raised with the aim of securing Siddaramaiah’s position as Chief Minister.

The BJP leader made these allegations during a press interaction in Chitradurga, claiming that the funds were collected at a dinner meeting hosted by the Chief Minister for his colleagues. Sriramulu stated that the timing of the funds being raised coincides with speculations about a potential leadership change in the Congress government.

Siddaramaiah’s Efforts to Secure His Position

Sriramulu suggested that Siddaramaiah’s position as Chief Minister is under threat, especially with the Congress government nearing the halfway mark of its five-year term. He mentioned that Siddaramaiah is making efforts to retain his role, particularly ahead of his scheduled visit to Delhi on November 15. Sriramulu referred to this period as a potential “November revolution,” with rumors circulating about changes in the leadership.

He also pointed out that the funds being raised by Siddaramaiah were intended for Congress’ campaign in Bihar, indicating that the Chief Minister is trying to ensure the party’s success in the state elections to help secure his political future in Karnataka.

Sriramulu emphasized that the fundraising started after the announcement of the Bihar Assembly elections and described it as part of Siddaramaiah’s strategy to protect his position as the head of Karnataka’s state government.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that his government is examining the possibility of filing a case against Karnataka IT Minister Priyank Kharge for his reported comment suggesting that Assam lacks the talent to establish large-scale industries such as a semiconductor unit

Sarma sharply criticised the Congress party for failing to denounce Kharge’s remarks, calling them offensive to the youth of Assam. He stated that the comments undermine the capability and education of young people in the state. The Chief Minister went on to describe the Karnataka minister as a first-class fool for making such a statement

According to reports, Priyank Kharge told a television channel that investments originally intended for Karnataka were being redirected to Gujarat and Assam because of pressure from the central government. Responding to this, Sarma said his administration was exploring legal options to determine whether a case could be filed, as the remarks were an insult to Assamese youth and their competence

Sarma emphasised that such statements not only question the skills of the state’s youth but also reflect poorly on those who make them. He reiterated that Assam has capable and educated individuals contributing to various sectors and that the state should not be undermined in national discussions

Bengaluru| Karnataka’s Labour Minister Santosh Lad has responded to Rajya Sabha MP Sudha Murty’s decision to opt out of the ongoing socio-economic and education survey, popularly referred to as the caste survey, being conducted by the Congress-led government in the state.

Speaking to the media, Lad said, “Whatever she has said is her way of expression. It’s her choice. As a government, we cannot compel anyone to participate in this. Whether someone is influential or not is subjective and debatable. I don’t think her decision will have any major impact on society. If she has taken her stand, I respect it.”

The minister’s remarks come after Sudha Murty and her husband, Infosys founder Narayana Murthy, declined to participate in the survey.

In a self-attested letter addressed to the Karnataka State Backward Classes Commission, the Murty family stated that they do not identify as belonging to a backward community and therefore chose not to participate.

The letter further mentioned, “We and our family will not participate in the census, and we are confirming it through this letter.”

Meanwhile, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced that government schools will remain closed from October 8 to October 18 to allow teachers participating in the ongoing socio-economic and educational survey to complete their assigned work.
