										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>Bengaluru| </strong>Karnataka’s Labour Minister Santosh Lad has responded to Rajya Sabha MP Sudha Murty’s decision to opt out of the ongoing socio-economic and education survey, popularly referred to as the caste survey, being conducted by the Congress-led government in the state.</p>
<p>Speaking to the media, Lad said, <em>“Whatever she has said is her way of expression. It’s her choice. As a government, we cannot compel anyone to participate in this. Whether someone is influential or not is subjective and debatable. I don’t think her decision will have any major impact on society. If she has taken her stand, I respect it.”</em></p>
<p>The minister’s remarks come after Sudha Murty and her husband, Infosys founder Narayana Murthy, declined to participate in the survey.</p>
<p>In a self-attested letter addressed to the Karnataka State Backward Classes Commission, the Murty family stated that they do not identify as belonging to a backward community and therefore chose not to participate.</p>
<p>The letter further mentioned, <em>“We and our family will not participate in the census, and we are confirming it through this letter.”</em></p>
<p>Meanwhile, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced that government schools will remain closed from October 8 to October 18 to allow teachers participating in the ongoing socio-economic and educational survey to complete their assigned work.</p>

<p>Jitu Vaghani, Gujarat&#8217;s education minister, said the choice to teach the Gita is in keeping with the Union government&#8217;s New Education Policy, which encourages children to learn about historic and ancient cultures that will make them proud of India&#8217;s great history.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Karnataka government today banned animal slaughter and sale of meat ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations.</p>
<p>As per the official order by the Joint Commissioner of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), &#8220;BBMP bans slaughter of animal and meat sale on September 10, 2021, on Ganesha Chaturthi.&#8221;</p>
<p>Earlier, on September 5, the Karnataka government informed that no more than 20 people will be allowed for celebrations and immersion of the Ganesha idol.</p>
<p>&#8220;No celebrations will be allowed after 9 pm. Night curfew to remain in effect during the festival to curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic,&#8221; read the Standard Operating Procedures issued by the government.</p>
<p>The order further informed, &#8220;No processions will be allowed. Only eco-friendly Ganesha idols will be allowed. Distribution of food and prasad will not be allowed during Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations. No function to take place in districts with more than 2 per cent positivity rate in view of the pandemic.&#8221;</p>
<p>Meanwhile, Karnataka logged 1,102 fresh cases of COVID-19 and 17 fatalities today, as per State Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar.</p>
<p>Ganesh Chaturthi, also known as Vinayaka Chaturti, is a Hindu festival celebrating the arrival of Ganesh to earth from Kailash Parvat with his mother Goddess Parvati/Gauri. It will be celebrated on September 10 this year.</p>

In the preceding week, the state administration reopened schools from grades 8 to 12.</p>
<p>Following a meeting headed by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and the state level TAC, Revenue Minister R Ashoka told the media that schools in districts with a positive rate of more than 2% will remain closed.</p>
