										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Uttarakhand Police has said that it won&#8217;t allow people to come to the holy city to celebrate Kanwar Yatra, which has been banned by the state government. The pilgrimage is scheduled to start from July 25.</p>
<p>As Kanwar Yatra is banned, no person will be allowed to enter Haridwar border for celebrations. Same applies to buses and trains,&#8221; said Ashok Kumar, Uttarakhand director general of police, as reported by news agency ANI.</p>
<p>He added that tourists from other parts of state won&#8217;t be stopped, but they will have to submit RT-PCR test report and register on Smart City portal before coming to Haridwar.</p>
<p>&#8220;Forces have been deployed on the borders of Haridwar district. Instructions are to request those coming to the border to go back. If anyone persists, action will be taken,&#8221; Kumar said.</p>
<p>If anyone sends a tanker in a systematic way, we will help them in collecting Gangajal, the police chief added.</p>
<p>The Har Ki Pauri ghat (river bank) in Haridwar has been sealed for Kanwariyas from July 24 to August 6. The decision was taken during an inter-state border meeting in Haridwar in which officers of Uttar Pradesh, Himachal, Punjab, Delhi and Haryana were present.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Indian Medical Association&#8217;s Uttarakhand chapter has written to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami requesting him to cancel the Kanwar Yatra this year for public safety in view of a possible third wave of COVID-19.</p>
<p>Drawing the Chief minister&#8217;s attention to the warnings of medical experts about a third wave of the pandemic in a letter, the IMA&#8217;s state secretary Amit Khanna asked him to not allow the proposed Kanwar Yatra to go ahead.</p>
<p>The fortnight-long yatra that begins with the onset of the month of Shravan around July 25 and goes on till the first week of August sees crores of Kanwariyas from neighbouring states like Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Delhi and Himachal Pradesh gathering in Haridwar to collect the holy waters of the Ganga.</p>
<p>The yatra had been cancelled last year too due to the first wave of COVID-19.</p>
<p>&#8220;We request you to disallow the proposed Kanwar Yatra in July-August, 2021, as the third wave of Covid pandemic is ready to knock on the doors of this country according to several specialists,&#8221; Mr Khanna said on behalf of the IMA in the letter.</p>
