Ashwin expressed concern that initial fixtures involving associate nations may not generate the excitement traditionally associated with a World Cup.
He noted that the increasing frequency of global tournaments has reduced anticipation among fans, a sentiment that is being echoed by many within the cricketing community. According to him, the sense of occasion that once defined ICC events is gradually fading due to an overcrowded international calendar.
Speaking on his YouTube channel Ash ki Baat, Ashwin said that matches such as India against lower ranked associate teams do little to build momentum for a marquee event. He recalled that earlier World Cups were held once every four years, allowing excitement to grow organically. In those editions, India often faced strong teams like England or Sri Lanka in the opening rounds, which made the tournament instantly engaging.
Reflecting on his childhood memories, Ashwin compared the present scenario with the era of the 1996, 1999, and 2003 World Cups. He said that during those years, fans eagerly collected World Cup cards, followed printed schedules, and waited years for the tournament, which helped build natural anticipation and emotional attachment.
Ashwin also raised concerns about the long term future of one day international cricket, particularly beyond the 2027 World Cup. He admitted that while he continues to follow domestic competitions such as the Vijay Hazare Trophy, his engagement with the format has reduced compared to his interest in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
He highlighted how the temporary return of senior players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to domestic one day cricket significantly boosted viewer interest. According to Ashwin, although sport is bigger than individual players, the presence of star cricketers often makes competitions more relevant to fans. He added that while many people followed the Vijay Hazare Trophy because of Kohli and Rohit’s participation, the bigger question remains about the format’s appeal once such players step away from ODIs.

]]>Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora directed that obscene and infringing content related to Gavaskar be taken down from the internet.
The court ordered that the identified URLs hosting offensive material, videos and posts must be removed within seventy two hours. It further clarified that if websites fail to comply within the stipulated timeframe, the concerned social media intermediaries would be required to take down the content. The matter has been scheduled for further hearing on May twenty two.
Reacting to the order, Sunil Gavaskar said the ruling represents an important judicial acknowledgment of a sportsperson’s personality and publicity rights in India. He noted that the decision assumes greater significance in cases involving unauthorised attribution, digital circulation and commercial exploitation across social media and e commerce platforms.
Earlier, on December twelve, the high court had directed social media intermediaries to act within seven days on Gavaskar’s plea seeking protection of his personality rights.
The court had asked his legal team to first approach the platforms with specific grievances and instructed intermediaries to treat the plea as a formal complaint under the Information Technology Intermediaries Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code Rules twenty twenty one.
During the latest hearing, the court was informed that although some infringing content had been removed, several links and materials were still accessible online. Gavaskar had approached the court to prevent the unauthorised use of his name persona images and likeness by social media platforms and e commerce websites, asserting his right to control and monetise his public identity.
Personality rights, also known as publicity rights, allow individuals to protect and regulate the commercial use of their image name and likeness. In recent months, several prominent public figures including actors filmmakers spiritual leaders journalists and digital creators have approached the Delhi High Court seeking similar protection. The court has granted interim relief in many of these cases, reflecting a growing judicial focus on safeguarding individual identity in the digital age.

Speaking at an Ageas Federal Life Insurance event in Mumbai, Tendulkar recalled the 1989–90 Irani Cup match between Rest of India and Delhi, played at the Wankhede Stadium. Despite Delhi dominating the contest and eventually winning by 309 runs, Tendulkar stood out with a determined 103, the only significant contribution apart from WV Raman’s 41.
Rest of India were struggling at 209 for 9 while chasing a massive 554. It was then that Gursharan Singh, representing Indi, Delhi, and Punjab, stepped in at No. 10 despite nursing a broken hand.
His goal was simple: support the young Tendulkar long enough for him to complete his hundred. Together, they added 36 runs before the innings ended at 245.
Tendulkar said the moment stayed with him forever.
He described the act as an example of commitment and integrity.
“As they say, promises must be kept — but they must also be fulfilled. That is our DNA”, he said, explaining how this match served as a trial before national selection.
He remembered batting in the 90’s, when chairman of selectors Raj Singh Dungarpur urged Gursharan to come out and support his teammate despite the injury. “Gursharan helped me get to my hundred, and after that, I got selected to play for India. Later, he too made it to the national side”, Tendulkar noted.
The legendary batter said, he thanked Gursharan extensively both on the ground and in the dressing room.
“Walking out with a broken hand was extraordinary. Whether I scored a hundred was secondary — what mattered was his spirit and willingness to help. That sincerity truly touched my heart”, he added.

]]>The group stage of the domestic T20 event is currently being conducted across four cities, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, and Kolkata. Indore had originally been chosen to host the Super League fixtures and the title clash.
The Super League is scheduled to begin on December 12, while the final will take place on December 18. According to Saikia, the decision to shift venues followed a request from the Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association. The association highlighted the limited availability of hotel rooms in Indore, as eight qualified teams, their extended support staff, and broadcasting units would all require accommodation at the same time.
The shortage resulted from multiple large-scale bookings in the city, including wedding events and a major doctors’ conference planned between December 13 and 16. These overlapping commitments made it impossible to secure the number of rooms needed for the tournament at premium hotels.
The Super League features eight teams, the top two sides from each Elite Group, split into two pools. The leading team from each pool will advance to the final. Pune will now host a total of thirteen matches, which include twelve Super League encounters and the championship match. Games will be played at the Gahunje Stadium and the old MCA ground.

According to her manager Tuhin Mishra, Shrinivas Mandhana began feeling unwell during breakfast and his condition continued to decline, prompting the family to call an ambulance and rush him to a hospital where he is now under continuous observation.
Mishra explained that Smriti’s close bond with her father made it impossible for her to continue with the ceremony while he remained unwell and she has chosen to wait until his recovery before moving ahead with any wedding plans. He added that the family was shocked by the sudden turn of events and requested privacy as they focus on his treatment.
The family doctor Naman Shah stated that Shrinivas Mandhana had complained of pain on the left side of his chest around 1:30 in the afternoon, which was identified as angina.
After being moved to the hospital, tests including an ECG showed elevated cardiac enzyme levels and his blood pressure was also high. The medical team is working to stabilise him and will consider angiography, if his condition worsens.
Shah mentioned that Smriti and her family are in constant touch with the doctors and the hope is that, his condition will improve by the next day. Celebrations for the weeklong wedding festivities had already begun in Sangli before the health emergency disrupted the preparations.

Chasing a manageable target of one hundred twenty four India lacked composure and clarity throughout the innings unlike Temba Bavuma who had anchored South Africa earlier in the day. India were bundled out for ninety three in thirty five overs. Shubman Gill remained unavailable due to a neck injury that kept him in hospital on Day Three.
On a pitch expected to support Indian spinners Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav it was Simon Harmer’s superb eight wicket haul that defined the match. India have now suffered four home defeats in their last six Tests a stretch that includes the three match whitewash in New Zealand on turning surfaces last year.
Stand in captain Rishabh Pant admitted the team fell short in the chase saying the pressure kept rising as wickets tumbled. Head coach Gautam Gambhir echoed that sentiment adding that this surface was playable and exactly the type they expected with the curator offering full cooperation.
Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja briefly steadied the chase with soft hands and composure. However Harmer struck again trapping Jadeja and reopening India’s slide. Washington’s dismissal to Aiden Markram’s part time spin added to India’s troubles. Dhruv Jurel showed maturity but a lack of runs forced him into an ill timed pull that found Corbin Bosch in the deep.
Pant looked unsettled and his return catch to Keshav Maharaj after scoring two reflected India’s muddled approach. Axar Patel lifted the crowd with two sixes and a four but with only Jasprit Bumrah. left he had to take risks and soon fell to Maharaj bringing India’s hopes to an abrupt end.
The loss will sting India even more because the spin friendly approach they expected to dominate ended up hurting them. Earlier in the day Bavuma’s gritty unbeaten fifty five revived South Africa on a surface with uneven bounce. Marco Jansen then rocked India before lunch by removing Yashasvi Jaiswal for a four ball duck and dismissing KL Rahul for one with sharp bounce from round the wicket.
South Africa extended their overnight score from ninety three for seven to one hundred fifty three with Bavuma’s steady batting and Corbin Bosch’s brisk twenty five in a stubborn eighth wicket partnership that frustrated India for forty four minutes. Pant’s choice to not use Bumrah from the more potent Club House End despite his five wicket haul in the first innings surprised many observers.
Bavuma was unshakeable and brought up the match’s first fifty with a fine leg boundary. A leg before scare against Mohammed Siraj was overturned and he continued to anchor the innings. Siraj however produced a double strike bowling Harmer who shouldered arms and then trapping Maharaj with a precise yorker.
Jadeja led India’s attack with four wickets while Kuldeep Yadav and Siraj claimed two each. Axar Patel and Bumrah also picked up one wicket apiece while Washington Sundar did not bowl.
