]]> Amid reports of violence and unrest in Shillong, Meghalaya Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui tendered his resignation on Sunday, 15 August, reported PTI.

“Today, I had a meeting with the party president and senior members of the party where I explained to them regarding the 13 August incident (encounter of a former militant). I’ve decided to write to the CM to relieve me from the home department,” Rymbui was quoted as saying by news agency ANI. 

Violence arose in the state after the alleged extra-judicial encounter of the ex-Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) militant Cherishterfield Thangkhiew on 13 August.

The former home minister further stated that a judicial enquiry should be conducted to bring to light all facts in the “unfortunate incident”, reported ANI.

]]> Director Rojin Thomas’ #Home will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on August 19, coinciding with Onam celebrations. Billed as a thought-provoking relationship drama, the film stars Indrans, Sreenath Bhasi and Vijay Babu in the lead roles.

With #Home, our focus was solely to highlight a socially relevant topic with a point of view portrayed in such a way that it leaves viewers with food for thought. The relatable characters have been carefully weaved into the narrative and presented in a light-hearted way that will make for a perfect family watch,” said Vijay Babu, who has also bankrolled the film.

]]> Security at three prominent railway stations in Mumbai and Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan’s bungalow has been beefed up after the police received an anonymous call about bombs being placed at these locations, an official has said. However, nothing suspicious has been found during the search so far, he said.

Mumbai police’s main control room received the call on Friday night, in which the caller said that bombs have been placed at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), Byculla, Dadar railway stations and at actor Amitabh Bachchan’s bungalow in Juhu, the police official said.

After getting the call, the Government Railway Police, Railway Protection Force along with the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad, dog squads and local police personnel rushed to these locations and carried out a search operation,” he said.

Nothing suspicious has been found so far at these place, but heavy police deployment has been put in place at there,” he said, adding that further investigation is on.
