<p>After gradually increasing in the first few months of the year, China&#8217;s shipments to North Korea plummeted to $2.71 million in May, down from $28.75 million in April, dashing merchants&#8217; expectations that more than a year of anti-coronavirus restrictions would soon be lifted.</p>
<p>North Korea is very isolated, making it difficult to determine the country&#8217;s status. However, rumors this week that North Korea&#8217;s greatest ally, China, intends to leave tight border restrictions in position for at least another year have put doubt on the country&#8217;s prospects.</p>
