]]> The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam on Thursday authorised its founder Vijay to take the final call on electoral alliances and also declared him the party’s chief ministerial candidate for the Assembly election scheduled for next year. The party stated that a special committee will be created to negotiate any electoral pact, but confirmed that the ultimate decision on alliances will rest with Vijay.

A resolution passed at the party’s meeting in Chennai said that the ruling DMK must be removed and a prosperous new Tamil Nadu must be built.

It added that the party accepts Vijay as its chief ministerial candidate and will welcome into its alliance those who are ready to acknowledge his leadership.

The resolution also emphasised that Vijay has been fully empowered to make final decisions regarding alliances.Another resolution noted that a manifesto committee will be formed to design a roadmap aimed at safeguarding the people of Tamil Nadu and guiding the state toward meaningful change.

]]> A ₹ 39-crore memorial for late DMK president and former Chief Minister M Karunanidhi will be constructed at the Marina on Kamarajar Salai in Chennai in recognition of his efforts to create a “modern Tamil Nadu”, Chief Minister M K Stalin announced on Tuesday.

The “Kalaignar Memorial” on the famous beach, where he has been laid to rest after his demise on August 7, 2018, will come up on 2.21 acres of land, Mr Stalin informed the state Assembly. Karunanidhi is fondly addressed as Kalaignar.

Leaders cutting across party lines, including main opposition party and DMK’s rival, AIADMK, welcomed the government’s announcement

Recalling the contributions of the late DMK stalwart in various spheres such as social welfare, transport, literature, education, urbanisation and infrastructure development, Mr Stalin hailed his father as the “sculptor of a modern Tamil Nadu.”

]]> Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, MK Stalin in his letter to the President of India, Ramnath Kovind has requested to accept the recommendation of the state Government. They have recommended to pass appropriate actions and remit the life sentence of all the seven convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case.

He has also demanded their immediate release. He says that the convicts have already paid a heavy price and suffered untold hardships and agony in the past three decades. He has also mentioned that the courts are also recognizing the need to decongest prisons due to the ongoing Covid crisis.

He also added that there has already been an inordinate delay in the consideration of their pleas for remission. He says this is what the other political parties of Tamil Nadu and the people of Tamil Nadu want. DMK in their manifesto had also promised to efforts to secure the release of the convicts.

]]> The National Education Policy announced in July 2020 has been facing strict opposition by the recently formed DMK government. The proposed three language formula does not seem to work for them. Even the previous AIADMK government had made it clear that they would stick to the two language formula. 

“The implementation of three language systems would pave the way for imposition of Hindi and Sanskrit. Through the policy, the centre insists that there should be two Indian languages, Tamil will naturally be the first language here. Centre is talking as if English foes not exist. Ours is a multi-cultural and multi-linguistic society and we can’t accept the imposition of Hindi and Sanskrit.”The School Education Minister of Tamil Nadu, Anbil Mahesh Poyyamazohi. 

Poyyamazohi also said that they also offered some solutions but there has been no response from the centre. In view of this, they had boycotted the meeting convened by Ramesh Pokhriyal, “Nishank”. It was organized to discuss the implementation of NEP with the State Education Secretaries.
