]]>This is three more than the magic figure of 122 needed for the majority. The RJD-led opposition grand alliance has won 110 seats. Among the constituents of the NDA, Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal United (JDU) has won 43 seats. At the same time, JDU’s alliance partner BJP’s candidate has been winning in 74 seats. Hindustani Awam Morcha (Hum), the other constituent of the NDA, has got four seats and Vikashani Insan Party (VIP) has won four seats.
The NDA has obtained a majority by defying the exit poll estimates. After NDA majority, it is decided that Nitish Kumar will be the next Chief Minister of Bihar. Nitish Kumar got power, but he is weak. His party’s seats have decreased.
This is the first time that the JDU has lagged behind the BJP in the alliance and has become the number two party. However, BJP national president JP Nadda has also made it clear during the campaign that Nitish Kumar will become the chief minister even if the seats are reduced.

]]>During the hearing in the Supreme Court, senior advocate Vikas Singh, appearing for Sushant Singh Rajput’s father, said he has no difficulty if the apex court examines the case but no protective order should be passed in favour of Chakraborty.
Singh alleged that Maharashtra Police is destroying the evidence in the case and for the time being, they should be directed to cooperate with Bihar Police in the ongoing probe.
Senior advocate R Basant, appearing for Maharashtra, told the bench that Patna Police has no jurisdiction to either lodge an FIR or investigate the matter and this has been made a political case. “The incident of quarantining a police officer (of Bihar) has not sent a good message,” the bench observed, adding that the Mumbai Police has good professional reputation. “Kindly ensure that everything is done in accordance with law,” the bench said.
The Maharashtra government told the bench, “We are doing quite a professional job and it is inappropriate that Mumbai Police is being accused like this.”
