]]> The search for the missing pilot of an Army helicopter that crashed into Punjab’s Ranjit Sagar dam on August 3 is in full swing, the Army has said, adding that it ”is fully committed” to “retrieving the second crew member of the ill fated helicopter”.

The Army has also said it ”empathises with the grief of relatives of the crew”.

The remains of one of the pilots on board, Lieutenant Colonel A S Batth, was recovered from the reservoir on August 15.

Neel Joshi, brother of the missing pilot Captain Jayant Joshi, told NDTV yesterday that the family is disappointed with the equipment being used in the search operation.

]]> On Tuesday, An army chopper crashed into the Ranjit Sagar Dam in Jammu province’s Kathu district. 

Locals said they saw an Army chopper nose diving into the water. A police officer said rescue boats had been pressed into service. 

Initial reports suggested at least five were on board the chopper, which apparently developed a snag after take-off at around 11 a.m from Purthu in Basohli area. 

The army has not given any details on the incident yet. 

It has also not confirmed the number of people on board the chopper.

]]> An IAF pilot Amit Choudhary died soon after the Mig-21 aircraft crashed in Punjab. It crashed in the Moga district of Punjab on May 20 evening. The Indian Air Force has ordered an inquiry for the incident.

The IAF tweeted,”There was an aircraft accident last night (May 20) involving a Bison aircraft of IAF in the western sector. The pilot, Sqn Ldr Abhinav Choudhary, sustained fatal injuries. IAF condoles the tragic loss and stands firmly with the bereaved family. A court of inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the incident”.

According to the reports of THE HINDU newspaper, the Police Supritendent of Moga, Gudeep Singh said that the incident took place around 9.30 pm on Thursday. He said,”Our police rushed to the spot immediately after receiving the information about the incident. The aircraft crashed in an open field near the village. After a search operation amid the rainfall, we recovered the body of the pilot at around 3 a.m. He was dead at the time when the body was recovered. The medical team of IAF was also accompanying us and the medical officer of IAF confirmed that the pilot was dead”.
