PUNE: All states should monitor vaccine recipients for adverse events following immunisation (AEFI) for 28 days, a top public health official has said. Currently, recipient are monitored for AEFI for the first 72 hours after receiving a jab.

Dr NK Arora, member of the national AEFI Adverse Events Following Immunisation (AEFI) committee, said with more vaccines set to enter the market, monitoring for side-effects should be enhanced. He said that all AEFI data will soon be up on a public portal, a move many health experts have been calling for.

Dr Arora said out of seven crore vaccine recipients assessed so far, less than 0.5% cases have involved serious AEFIs. “We have submitted detailed analyses to the government. The data should be out soon,” he said. He said that longer monitoring durations is essential and has been the norm in many countries.

“All states should now direct local authorities to develop a mechanism that will allow recipients to report side-effects for 28 days. This system should record such events — from public and private facilities — and update them on the CoWIN website,” he said. Many health experts have called for the release of AEFI data. They said that publicly available information on side-effects can help reduce vaccine hesitancy. All the Covid-19 vaccines are new and experts said extensive follow-ups are needed with recipients to look for unusual adverse events.

Vaccination will start for people over 18 years of age from May 1 to prevent the corona epidemic.

It will be mandatory for people in the age group of 18 to 44 to register themselves online to get vaccinated which means today i.e. Wednesday from 4 pm  will begin.  The most important thing for this is that people between the age of 18 to 45 years will not be vaccinated without registration.

People of this age will have to register for the corona vaccine first and book the appointment.  For this, you will have to register in Corona Vaccine Intelligence Network cowin i.e. the platform of Co-win app.

People above the age of 45 years will get this facility.
Every vaccination-related data will be available on the Co-win app platform.  Let us know that the facility of walk-in has not been provided for people above 18 years of age, whereas for those over 45 years, walk-in facility will be available.

That is, people born before 1 January 1977 can also get vaccinated by directly reaching the vaccination center without registration.  That is, for people above 45 years, the option of onsite registration will remain as before.

People between the age of 18 to 44, who want to get vaccinated, can register from 4 pm on Wednesday.

The Health Ministry has given information by tweeting that people currently 45 years or older are undergoing vaccination.  From May 1, 2021, the corona vaccination will be started for the age group of 18-45 years.  For this, some special things have to be kept in mind-
 1. Registration for vaccination for all people between the age of 18-44 will start from April 28.
 2. Registration will begin on the CoWIN platform and Aarogya Setu App.  The documentation process for vaccination will remain the same as before.
 3. For crowd control, the government has decided that it will be mandatory to take registration and appointment on the CoWIN portal.  There will not be a walk-in vaccine.
 4. After registration on the CoWIN platform and Aarogya Setu App, check the confirmation on the registered mobile number.
 5. When you get the vaccine, then take the appointment slip and photo ID.
 6. The process of COVID-19 vaccination in private hospitals will continue.  Now private hospitals will buy vaccines directly from the vaccine manufacturers, not from the government.
 7. Vaccination will continue free of cost at government vaccination centers.

The risk of corona epidemic is increasing once again across the country.  In view of this, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has written a letter to PM Modi to suggest that the vaccination program should be expedited and that people above 18 years of age should also be allowed to get vaccinated.

At this time, the Central Government has approved the installation of Corona Vaccine to all persons above the age of 45 and from April 1, people aged 45 years can visit their nearest center and get the Corona vaccine dosed online or offline.
All people above the age of 18 years should be approved for corona vaccination.

Free walk-in covid vaccination should be available to everyone at the nearest possible place of citizens.
Family clinics and private hospitals in the private sector should also be actively involved in vaccination drives.  The availability of vaccination with all doctors and family physicians will have a positive impact on the vaccination drive.

Vaccine task force teams should be formed at the district level under the PPP model.  Their task will be to get more and more people vaccinated, to monitor those who have got vaccinated, and to create trust among people about it.  IMA wants to play an active role in this.

Vaccination certificate should be made compulsory for admission to public places and for making purchases under Public Distribution System (PDS).
In case of corona virus cases are increasing again, in order to break the chain of this infection, lockdown should be imposed for a limited time on non-essential activities like cinema, cultural and religious events and sports.

Corona virus has not wreaked havoc in the country.  The second wave of corona virus is constantly scaring.  How dangerous the second wave is, can be gauged by the fact that in the last 24 hours, there have been 96982 new cases of Corona virus in the country.

During this time, 446 people have died.  According to the Ministry of Health, the total cases of infection have reached 12,686,049 in the country so far.  5.89 percent of the total cases are active cases.

The number of active cases in the country has increased to 7,88,223.  50143 recovery has been done within 24 hours.  The total recovered cases have been 1,17,32,279.  After 446 new deaths, the number of people who died of this disease in the country has reached 1,65,547.
